Yeah, I wonder why Valve didn't use them in Half-Life 2?

There are no dynamic shadows in HL2. It makes the moving lights seem a bit... odd.

It'd be nice if you could turn them on somehow. Maybe make a map that supports them or something. I know the Source engine can do it, contrary to popular belief, because Vampire: Bloodlines has them, and it uses the Source engine, too.
 
Imo they will add dynamic shadows in to the engine at a later date, once more computers can support them properly.

My thoughts exactly.

Not everybody has the kind of rig that can run that tech flawlessly. Valve will undoubtedly wait until we have a standard that can.
 
It's not something you can just flip on and off without drastically affecting the way the game looks.
