Version 8 of the incredibly popular sandbox-modification Garry's Mod has just been released, and is available for download on the official website.

"Version Eight adds a lot of new stuff - too much to go through here.. I'm sure half the fun is figuring it out for yourself so I'm not going to write any huge guides. One thing I need to stress is that you need to press and hold Q in game to show the new spawn menu."

Too much work to do to try it out. I'll just install it and leave it for a rainy day. etc.
 
It's very good. The multiplayer crashed on me though.
 
I can't spawn more than one ragdoll at a time in SP. Anyone know why?
 
the HDRI is realy cool.. and the menu interface is nice to :D its a nice mod :thumbs:

It shouldn't apply to single player - multiplayer servers have a limit ( gm_sv_clientlimit )
 
The menus and much are easier to use. The bloom looks great expecially if you adjust it to your liking.
 
Garry's Mod: The only game that doesn't pretend NOT to be counter-productive.

Actually it's happening in single player... the ragdoll limit is set to 1, I had to add it to my autoexec.cfg to make it higher.

Does anyone know if the timed explosions are still in? I can't find them. ;(
 
Statue mode, the new face poser, and the undo feature are great additions. Ahhh gmod gets even better.
 
@garry

The Bloom and DoF aren't working. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 5900XT. Are you sure you fixed it for NVidia cards?

Also, the ragdoll limit can be rather annoying. How may I fix it temporarily so that I can spawn more?

And one last thing, does Reaper's spawn menu work with this version? If not, is he planning on making a menu for this version?

I would have posted it on the Facepunch forums, but they are down and this is the only place I know you look at.
 
There's another quickfix that has just been released to sort out the ragdoll spawn limit.

Loving V8, the new interface is very sweet.
 
There seems to be a bunch of features missing that were in the last version(s). I was really wanting to use the rotating wheel function, but it doesn't seem to be included. Am I missing an extended menu or something?
 
Nah, there is some stuff taken out. The timed explosions are gone ;(

I was very disappointed with that too. ;(

Same goes for the timed explosions.
 
I'll give it a go. When can we expect the counter-strike additions or are they already implemented?
 
Version 8 allows you to start a new game directly into the standard CS maps. It also lets you spawn CS-specific ragdolls, weapon models, and props.

Too bad all the effects like muzzleflashes, blood spray (not the 'paint' texture, movable sprites) are removed.. Now there's practically no way to make actionpacked scenes in the mod.

No, he just moved them. There's a new tool for making sprites instead of spawning them from effects menu. Plus, you now have emitters for things like bullet tracers, sparks, etc.
 
How could you put the hdr/bloom effect in hl2 or css. Is it just a matter of moving a file?
I know valve HDR is coming soon but I woul like to see hl2 with this effect now!

There is a bloom mod already, only for hl2, though

GeForce 6800GT. gmod bloom looks great dunno why other one wouldnt work.

garrys mod is not instant gratification like a video game. Its more like a jigsaw puzzle, or a model air plane. its time consuming, and maticulous, and your only rewarded when YOU create something great. Its like a sandbox, where you put the pieces together.

one question. can you save your stuff in garrys mod?
 
There was a save option when I exited single player so yeah... I wouldn't go online with this since mostl people go on their little power trips spawning in weapons or give themself god mod.
 
I found a little error having to do with some weapons (more like TOOLS) not working underwater.
 
First: Most features are there. The normal weapons have been put back, and you have to use the spawn menu (Q) to switch to them. They're all based on the crossbow, so I'm sure they work underwater.
Second: Some features are missing. v8 is redone from scratch based on hl2dm instead of hl2, so that multiplayer is now much less buggy (paint gun works, material gun works, players are animated in non-dedicated servers). Be patient and wait for everything to come back.
