gamespot recently featured an article on gay themes in games. Japanese audiences have been exposed to gay themed games in the past but this is a recent phenomenom in US games....The Sims will allow same sex partners to adopt a child (hehhehe I'm killing myself thinking how ultra conservatives will scream bloody murder over this one). Fable will allow gay relationships and there are more games on the way featuring homo-erotic content

so what do you all think? please check your homophobic attitude at the door, no gay bashing or flaming please

I couldn't care less, since it doesn't bring anything worthwhile to gaming.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with having gay people in games. Because there are gay people in reality too.
Everyone wants realism in games, and that's what it is.

I like to think of it this way:
What if, say, 75% of the world were gay, and straight folk were generally considered unnatural, repulsive and deviant?

Would us hetero folks be happy being banned from marriage, told that the thought of us makes them vomit and that we'll burn in hell? What if something like 90% of all media showed only homosexual characters with only token 'straight' guys as comic relief? And if we were told that we should try to change to being gay?
What if some people would flat-out refuse to play games with hetero characters?

Wouldn't be so much fun with the tables turned, without the privilege of majority. So, I like to keep an open mind.

I've known a few gay people, and they're basically no different than anyone else. So who cares if they're in a game?

Mechagodzilla, wonderful post. If games didn't have black people, for example, they wouldn't be considered particularly representative, so why not other minority groups too?
So go HL2 for its political correctness - black disabled male, black female, important female employee (Mossman), multi-ethnic resistance forces, important alien allies (now that's multi-culturalism for you...) Right now, who's gay?

It's funny though, the game was criticized for having gays in it, but why? Okay you can shoot at them, but so could you at black people and white, and women, and Arabs. They're just as a member of society as blacks and middle aged white men with an office job right?
Having gays in a game is just a realistic mirror of society, but when they're in, they bitch about discrimination, ffs how many Arabs and Germans have I killed?! This is what bugs me about 'gay movements', they're screaming 'accept us as we are' but at the same time they're trying to be as different as humanly possible. Like someone said in this thread, some of them are just begging to be recognized as someone gay rather than just someone.

I mean, we even have real gay games: the gay olympics. Why must they be so different? Hell... we have the gay parade here each year where men wearing nothing but socks (on their dicks that is) ride through the canals in a boat. Do you see heterosexuals screaming 'HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M STRAIGHT!! LOOK I'M LICKING THIS GIRLS' TITS, CAUSE I'M STRAIGHT!'

It gives normal gay people a bad reputation. The biggest obstacle for gay people to be fully accepted by society is to stop those retards acting like complete fags (yes there's a huge difference between the two).

My (late)brother was gay and his significant other was a real "fag" or "flamer"(no disrespect meant by that)....while you wouldnt even know my brother was gay unless he told you.

Gay people that act like jerks give gay people a stereotype much like
Americans being fat and stupid or any other .... Its just a stereotype that all gay people are "fags".


Most gay people are relativly normal....with the usaul odditys that we all have.

Gay culture...just like american culture is not forced on you.....

Not at all. You're completely aware of and open to other peoples' choices in life and you've recognised and complimented when other people have made valid points. In fact that pretty much qualifies you as being one of the most open-minded people in the thread.

It's not closed-minded to call a gay person a jerk. If someone's a jerk, then they're a jerk no matter what their sexual persuasion, ethnicity, disability or whatever.
Campness can be funny and endearing to an extent but sometimes it's just too much. Which goes just the same for most character traits.
Ironically, when people get too politically correct they become almost as closed-minded as so many of the people they criticise.

I'll probably play the games all the same (minus homosexual features). But the fact it's becoming common is disturbing. I can't say I oppose private organizations from doing what they want, especially since i just said I'd play the games anyway.

Actually theres already been some story-driven games out there with homosexuality. Fear Efffect had lesbian main characters, and even included a shower scene.
