GDC 2010 - News

That was nice to read. He talks about how romance doesn't work in video games, flaws of morality/karma systems. I really like his ideas. He also talks about KoToR, and cancelled Aliens game.

Is that a BSOD he gets towards the end? hahahhaa

Viral marketing for Portal 2.

just like your childhood

Alpha Protocol is great. You do realize the video was from a cam, not recorded in-game, right?
What ZT said. I really don't see how it being a cam (which I fully realised watching it) has any bearing on anything I said. Unless the cam was losing focus on specific parts of the screen every 3 seconds, thus creating the intensely annoying blur effect.

That's exactly my point. Footage recorded through a camera of a screen will always be lower quality than an actualy in-game record. I like what I see - Obsidian's games are never about graphics, they're about content and writing and so far it's good.

Besides, Chris Avellone worked on it, guaranteeing a non-standard take on the spy-fi genre.

I think you're in denial (no offense :p). Obsidian may not be "about graphics", but that doesn't mean they should accept lowest-common-denominator graphical implementations. Even given that it was a shaky-cam video, there are two things about this game that are immediately apparent: the depth of field effect was terrible and distracting, and not a single skeletal animation was believable. Not one. Not even the ragdolls. I'm glad that they added a sort of "heel bump" to walking and sneaking animations, which is something that should make the animations more realistic than that of most games, but it's so exaggerated and rapid in its current state that every character in the game moves like a wind-up robot.

Are there clips on the internet where I can see content and writing? The trailer in this thread is showing a third-person stealth action game, not too appealing. Am I missing something? A selling factor for me is: open world and total freedom. It doesn't have to be Shakespeare, but I want to feel the thrill of exploration.
About graphics, I remember you bashing Fallout 3 for bad shadows and animations ;)

It's not "open world" and "total freedom", Alpha Protocol is probably more comparable to Mass Effect/Dragon Age when it comes to how "open" it is.

If Alpha Protocol has the same cinematic feeling of Mass Effect, I could be interested. Fact is, the trailers I saw didn't show much more than a third-person stealth game. Too much action for a RPG. Is there something like strategic pausing? Is there an auto aiming system, to use the firing skills of the character? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Dude... look at the video. This is not some shitty shaky handicam footage, it's clear as day (besides the slight dutch angle). I can very clearly see textures, aliasing around models, everything. I acknowledge that it's not 100% quality, but it's more than enough to make a judgement from.

I obviously can't comment directly on the writing with so little shown, but... you are the same guy who railed on Mass Effect's dialogue system, right? You realise this one is not only derivative, but even more vague about which response you give? "Ooh, I think I'll chose 'retort' this time!" Gee, sounds compelling.
