Gearbox's Randy Rant Part 2

I thought the PS3 version of the Orange Box was outsourced in such a way, and Valve were unhappy with the result. I presume that just reinforced their aversion.

Yes now I remember now. Yeah it was delayed and still turned out bad. The Playstation 3 is sort of like Windows Vista. Initially it was terrible and now it's quite good. Now we are starting to see good games coming out for it and it is a Blu-Ray player.

Here is my take on Valve and it has nothing to do with the article. Valve has said for months that DX10 is trivial yet most people have a DX10 capable card and are using XP but are moving to Windows 7. They saw an advantage of multi-core CPU systems and Source wasn't designed for it. They still put it in sloppily. Really the common cause of stuttering in Source I learned is because I had the multi-CPU option turned on.

So what am I saying? Valve has slightly been regressing on their technology end and improving upon their digital distribution platform for years now. Originally Steam was a new X-Fire (and IMO X-Fire is better than Steam still) but has taken on a life of it's own. They also need to figure out if they want to make another HL3 in the next decade or take a decade to make Episode 3. Or better yet figure out how to NOT take a decade but still make a Valve product.

What I am suggesting is that Valve create a, here we go again, a Source 2 built from the ground up for todays hardware. It was built for 2004 hardware but has been patched and mangled so much that it's really Frankenstein. It runs great, but doesn't look as good as say the newest COD which looks great and runs great. They also have to get on the ball with the console end if they are serious on convincing console gamers to put down COD and play TF2. Part of the problem is on Microsoft end but when you get a sloppy company to port the game, that doesn't reflect very well for Valve.

Valve IMO should hire a 3rd party company to properly port their games including the PS3. There are many PS3 people out now and I think the article comments reflect that. Also Randy did something right with Borderlands. ;)

You know I gotta admit though that Valve do tend to act really strange with the PS3 and I give him that one. Valve could hire a 3rd party to develop their games on the PS3 properly like they do with the XBOX 360.
Valve develope their XBox 360 stuff themselves. They let EA UK port the PS3 version of the Orange Box and that turned out horribly and Valve weren't happy with the support they were able to give to their PS3 customers. That's why L4D hasn't made its way to the PS3.

PS3 i know the support on the PC has been bar none. Not even the 360 has any TF2 or Left4Dead updates.
I was under the impression that the survival pack was on the XBox version (for a small fee) as well as several game tweeks.

I must be more tired than I thought

"It’s cool, it’s good, and they’re doing a good job...."

Randy I'am really happy for you and i'amma let you finish, but epic games is one of the best gaming companies of all time! of all time!

No, it isn't. In fact, their games suck.
