Greetings all,

Can someone here that has the PC version of this game, enlighten me as to just what is so great about this game? I have the PC version & I have so far played it for a little over 4 hours & at this time, I totally fail to see why everyone seems to rave about this game. I can understand that when it came out for the 360, everyone praised the graphics, but other than that, I am completely unimpressed. The game runs very smooth on my PC.

My impressions of the game thus far:

Pro's:

1)Very nice graphics.

Con's:

1)Horrible "Cell" looking blood. I see none get splattered when I get hit or hit others. I do notice what appears to be blood, only the visual effect looks like red "Cell" blood.
2)Extremely Repetitive combat against enemies that take an insane amount of damage before they die.
3)Lack of area specific damage? I tested this with God mode on & head shots seemed to do no more damage than regular body shots seemed to do. Do different weapons in the game actually do more or less damage ordo they only look different, but do the same damage? Melee attacks are way over powered. 2 melee hits brings an enemy down, but 4 clips later, the guy is still running around shooting at me. For me that = Frustration.
4)Overall "Feeling" of the game. Even with the random crashes to desktop aside, the game, IMHO, is just plain boring.
5)Simply Horrible squad AI. 25% of the time they will take cover. The rest, they LEAVE cover & stand in the open and exchange pop shots with the enemy, only to die, forcing me to come to revive their dumb asses.. WTF?

This is NOT a review. Only my own personal thoughts on a game that had a huge amount of hype surrounding it, which was more or less the sole reason I got it. I'm still in the "Ashes" section of the campaign. Does the game get any better? All the reviews I have read, both for the 360 & the PC, have all praised it. Hell, Gamespot itself gave it a 90%!

Please only respond if you have the game & have played it. If the game stays the same from here on out, i'm not going to bother playing any further.

Thanks in advance for any & all replys.

This is one of those games that you have to play with a friend.

The game is crap. I never even finished the campaign. Bought the collector's edition on release day too. I haven't bought many 360 games, but aside from GRAW this was probably my worst X360 purchase to date.

Regarding the blood splatters, I think that is just the look they wanted. I think it's pretty satisfying. You should see blood splatter anytime your bullets hit the enemies.

The only thing I don't like is the voice-overs by your character when you pick up ammo.

My game doesn't crash. Make sure you have the brand new drivers, as they have specific game fixes.

I keep being amazed by it. The cover system is killer.

I would make sure you use a gamepad. The 360 controller works perfectly for this game of course.

The various weapons do varying amounts of damage of course.

The rifle kills them in 1 or two hits. There is an automatic rifle that fires in bursts, and one that fires continuously until the clip is discharged. Then there is the Hammer of Dawn or whatever it's called. Grenades do great damage. The pistol you start the game with is much weaker than the 357 type pistol (can do 1 hit kills), but has a greater rate of fire. Haven't tried all of the weapons yet.

Headshots should make their head explode, so yes, there is some damage zones on the enemies. Not like CoD4 or anything but something.

Yeah, the graphics are great.

It's just a game. To me it's very similar to RE4, except with better gameplay, better control, better graphics, better sound, etc. If you liked RE4, I think you will like Gears of War.

At least the PC version has 5 new chapters, an editor, and all of the downloadable 360 content included. Pretty psyched about the editor. I haven't made any mods yet though.

Maybe you will come back to the game on a rainy day.

he's probably talking about the harder modes for the 'insane' damage thing. Yeah, that's why its harder. Insane mode is with friends only (I'm gonna try it myself for the f*** of it anyways). Hardcore is pretty much what I'm looking for.

I loved GoW. It got boring after a while, though. :\

Great info virus, thank you!

I do see the "blood" when I hit enemies, it's just like I said, "Cell" looking. But if thats the way the devs made it, then ok.

I know what you mean about the voice overs, but for me, that was the least annoying aspect of the game.

The cover system is interesting, there is no doubt about that. I wish it would have been toggled only while pressing a button, like in R6:Vegas. Otherwise, it is very effective.

I only have the pistol, the shotgun type gun & the chainsaw machine gun. Each weapon seems to take forever to bring down an enemy. Of course I am playing it on the hardest option I can, which is the middle option after casual. "Hardcore" I think it's called.

Hmmm.. no exploding heads for me. Gibs if I get a lucky nade throw.

I haven't played the PC version but just based on my knowledge of how GoW works I imagine it's more appropriate for a controller (mostly because of the cover system). Also, co-op is really the reason that GoW is awesome, for me anyway.

i liked the blood in it. it was much more realistic then it was in the xbox version. also mrg your playing on a freaking 6800ultra and 1gb of ram. are you even able to play with all of the goodies?

I agree that the blood sucks. The gameplay itself is custom tailored to the x360 and is extremely unsatisfying to users of mouse/keyboard. I could have played it if there had been quicksave or you never had to watch the same cut-scene twice, but as it stands it is unplayable for me.

The shotgun seems to suck rotten cocks. Swap it for something else. ;) It's weak, and the spread is too wide. It also has a slow rate of fire. I guess if you stick it their face and pull the trigger it would probably contradict me however.

If you are using a gamepad, just press the analog stick in the opposite direction of the cover to stop using cover. FYI, you don't have to do a fancy move from a cover position, you can just leave cover by doing this.

by the way, how do you do the chainsaw? I guess I could open the instruction book laying here, it probably tells you in there.

I don't why people are confused when using mouse/keyboard. It's pretty simple to control...

Also, yes Virus you're supposed to use the shotgun at distances of <10 feet.

when you get the gun with the chainsaw. press your melee button 'f' by default

also the controls on keyboard/mouse arent hard at all to be honest. bunch of whiners

As a general rule of thumb, I try to play every game on the hardest difficulty setting. Not because i'm trying to be a virtual macho man, but because for me, it'll make any given game last longer. So with GOW, I was playing on the Hardcore setting, skipping the Casual setting all together. Well I tried it on Casual & I am actually having quite a bit of fun now. Enemies no longer require a half-dozen clips to kill.

I also finally figured out how to use the chainsaw on my gun & so finally got my first kill with it only moments ago. Damn, that is a bad-ass weapon. I died countless times running up to every enemy I came across, just so I could use the chainsaw. :P I also just got the Hammer of Dawn. Interesting weapon.

GoW for the 360 is great but on the PC version you get to fight that giant dinosaur looking thing with all the guns on it's back. Online is a lot of fun
