Gears of War (X360) Discussion!

Huzzah, the voice issue is being fixed. It's annoying when certain people can't hear others, but it usually only happens for the first 2 rounds of a game then it's fixed. But still.

Aren't the new maps coming out today in US? I overheard in school today someone saying it, haven't checked websites myself.
 
The patch is out, the voice issue is fixed and the maps are out.

The small one, Raven Down or whatever... SUCKS. think of it as a plus sign with 2 people spawning at each end and the downed chopper in the middle and a bunch of cover all over the place. There are no real tactics involved and it's just a big jumble-f*ck to see who wins. The other one, the museum one, is pretty big and seems cool. I haven't been able to play it much as every game I join seems to have 1 round left on the map before it goes to the other gay one.

With the new patch comes a lag issue though. It doesn't happen every game, and not often, but sometimes you'll get the message saying that your connection to the other players has deteriorated etc. and EVERYBODY will stop like that for a few seconds. At least it happens to everybody in the game and not individual players so it doesn't totally mess up your game.
 
Well I finally got to beating the game a few days ago, I have to say that the General Naan really wasn't that much of a boss type of guy. I'd rather fight a berserker with eyes.
 
anyone heard anything new regarding the next patch?

rumour is they're adding a new weapon

I tryed playing campaign the other day but I just couldn't bring myself to playing for more than 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, it's just it was so short that I can still remember every tiny detail vividly and... well, eh, it's the same with DVD's for me. I can't watch an episode of something (let's say Futurama) then watch it again the next day. I just can't. I keep getting it with GOW.

I wish it had been longer. Such a good game.

well they are making it into a trilogy but ya i agree it was too short
you should try playing CO OP on or offline :thumbs:

I ADORE co-op, such a good feature for such a great game.
 
Well that's the thing - in the first two months of having the game, I pretty spent every other day doing everything GOW related I could. Co--op with pretty much every single friend who has a 360 and playing 4 v 4 games of Live as much as possible.

Basically, I've played the game to death, and combine that with how short it is, it's going to take at least a year before it becomes fresh enough for me to enjoy properly again.

or perhaps they merely need to add THREE new weapons and some more maps and maybe a CTF game mode!

i just dont see a flamethrower working in GOW
lets hope im wrong :p
 
3 new maps and weapons would get me back online I'd say. Truth be told, the only Live games I played were with my mates as the majority of the party. Not played with others - I'm all for teamwork, but my team mates as close mates, liable to be able to shout obscenitys at each other two and fro, was just awesome. Got to try and pursuade them to all come back on. I've not played the two new maps yet, either. :|

I think a flamethrower would work in the aspect that they could no doubt make it a horribly gory and satisfying weapon to use, but it should be placed in points of the map where you can't just grab it without having to experience a fight for it first. Some maps had the sniper in really easy places, where people could get it unscathed and retreat back to camp. The flamethrower, if added, needs to be placed somewhere strategically.

Also, it needs to be a one-off weapon otherwise close combat is going to be over very quickly if everyone is running around with 'throwers. Although, it does depend how powerful they make them. I want to see charred and crispy corpses!
 
Did you guys read the date on the rumour ? It was suppose to be out ~8 days ago.
 
I hear it's a territory based game type. . . and wow, i almost forgot about this game. . this should get me back online too. .
 
Finally I'll have a reason to dust off my paper weight 360 and play a game. For Christ sake, when are they going to release some killer games?
 
Because as of lately, there hasn't really been much that's even worth playing. The update sounds good, can't wait to play it.

Same here. IMO the gameplay is freakin ACE, but it needs more replayability to carry it. Same problem with Half-Life 2...

Hmm, episodes anyone? They're already pimping the downloadable content, why not?

Territory based gameplay hasn't been done very well so far.. hopefully it will add some bunkers, and a CRAPLOAD of super-awesome places to hide, where the only way to die is to get stormed and smacked/and/or/chainsawed to death.
 
Epic pretty much always does new content right. . this is going to own pretty much guaranteed

Don't have acess to live atm, but the update is supposed to include a new game mode called Annex, gameplay tweaks and fixes, and VGA cable support.

great for me cause i use my VGA monitor at 1280x1024
so i'll be getting full 720p support today :)
annex looks interesting, i'll be sure to report back once ive had a good go at it

Support for VGA? I've been running GOW on my gaming monitor using a VGA cable for a while now. :\

I say ''running'', I mean I had a quick 10 minutes* playthrough to see what it looked like in hi-def (ZOMGORGOUS)

no, for some reason people running 1280x1024 on a VGA monitor werent able to run the game at 720p as it should have been
thats now fixed :) and it looks much better

as for Annex, i played it for about 20 minutes and enjoyed it quite a bit
unfortunately, as you guys may or may not know, kills in ranked games of annex do not count towards achievements
because of this, im sure alot of people arent going to play it nearly as much as it deserves...myself included

i mean, what the hell were they thinking though? i understand that there are far more kills to be had in a territorial type game where people are respawning every 8 seconds or so, but still, the majority of people playing GOW online want to get all or at least some of the achievements.. and those particularly interested in getting "seriously..." wont even go near Annex

does anyone know anything about a new 4 map-pack coming out soon? supposedly theyre charging 5 bucks for it??

here's the official changelog for tweaks and bugs:

* VGA Cable Support: Monitor resolution widths greater than or equal to 1280 now render as letterbox. In particular VGA users running at 1280x1024 will now see the game in full 720p (1280x720) resolution in letterboxed form.

* Adjusted Assassination Multiplayer Gametype: Leader no longer has to unlock weapons and now has to be executed to die.

* Adjusted Boomshot: Splash damage to be more effective rendering targets down-but-not-out.

* Adjusted Hammer of Dawn: Aiming will be more forgiving of moving targets.

* Adjusted Roadie Run: Reduced frequency of accidently grabbing cover while running.

* Kill Message Ticker: Ticker can now be seen while down-but-not-out and spectating.

* General: Addressed a number of possible exploits in multiplayer.

they fixed weapon sliding! :)
 
has anyone downloaded the new map pack yet?
costs 800 ms points but they look incredible
 
Is anyone else having trouble finding games? In both player matches and Ranked matches I'm only getting about 3 servers....and the few rooms that I get are running the new maps making me unable to play on live.
 
There's 4 new maps? I haven't got my 360 atm so that would explain why I haven't heard about them via dashboard but I ain't seen jack shit about them on the net. :|

i first heard about them on IGN
ive only spent about 10-15 minutes with each map so far but they seem pretty good
i especially like subway
 
I watched a 9 minute vid on Youtube showing them all off. Pretty much stuff. Gardens just looks like all the other outdoor map but Subway, Process and the other one look cool. I think it's awesome how they've implicated the Kyrll into that map. Can't wait to shoot out the lights near an enemy. :D
