Geek Get Togethers near Washington?

I decided I need to get out more. So does anyone know of any "geek" get together's near the washington area? Washington on the east coast, in the united states. Washington D.C.

AND PLEASE, DON'T SUGGEST ANY ANIME CONVENTIONS.

As much as I enjoy anime, anime FANS scare the bajeezits out of me.

Any suggestions?

Um going out usually is involved with a group of people you already know. I don't really think there are things like that.
