a 8800gtx retails for $499-$549 but only marginally out performs the GT (according to that link) that costs half as much ....that makes no sense whatsoever ..ATI isnt a threat to the GTX why would they come out with a card that competes with their own top tier cards? they'd be shooting themselves in the foot ...if those benchmarks are correct expect the GT 512 to cost substantially more than $250 ..I'm thinking in the $400-450 range
These new cards from ATI and Nvidia are 65nm, which dont cost much to manufacture and require less power. and the Geforce 8800GT is meant to compete with the new ATI 2950, also I heard they will cut the GTS line and replace it with GT.
I'd love to see those cardsShack: Do you have any insight to how well the upcoming range of cards will support Crysis, not just on the high end but lower down the ladder as well?
Cevat Yerli: Very, very well. Stay tuned for more on this. In mid November you will see the new NVidia cards. They are a blast for Crysis and really, really very good deals.

So i guess they are coming!
Yeah that has to be fake, other wise people who bought GTS's just got ripped off
(woot first post!!!)
SLI these babies =O rawr. 2x 512 8800gt = affordable 1gb of graphics PWN.

really only 512mbs sorry
You crushed my dreams :'( what exactly would be the advantage of SLI then? I'm kind of a newbie to the dual graphics card theory, I know more about HDD raids and such.
But those sites sign NDAs. They won't be posting any review til the NDA expires and they can tell all about that cool product they were previously told not to talk about. What gets me is that the card is due for release on Monday and yet no major site has reviewed one yet... very suss to me
I really think those GT scores are BS... cheaper than a GTS AND more powerful? zzz... If they do revise the GTS 640mb cards, what would that mean for people like me that currently have 1 and are looking to SLI them in the future? We should be able to trade our old ones in for a new one in that case :/
$250?how much willl this card cost? *head scratch*

It'd still be 512mbs. SLI does not mean vRAM values are added, but each card's ram is used to render half of the output.
$250?

No, because if it has to render half the scene on one card and half on the other...it will load the textures needed TWICE (once in each card). It splits up the load on the CORE but still the same memory needed to do any rendering on a card. So, wouldnt that make its the same as 1gb of vRAM? I mean, yeah its not technically 1gb, but it can handle the same as 1 right?

But the die is bigger and there is no DX10.1
Nvidia's original plan was to price the D8P/G92 at $ / €299, but ATI’s aggressive pricing changed Nvidia’s mind. All the early adopters of 8800GT have to thank ATI for the $249 and $199 prices for these cards at launch.
We can now confirm that Geforce 8800GT will win against RV670XT, clocked at 825MHz with the DDR4 memory at 2400MHz. Nvidia’s chip is more powerful and faster in most of the games and synthetic benchmarks; but, at the same time, the chip generates more heat, it's 65 nanometer and it is more expensive for Nvidia to make.
As a consumer you don't need to worry about these things; but knowing how the new ATI thinks, we can bet that RV670XT / PRO and GT will end up lower priced than Nvidia prices and this will be their way to fight Nvidia.
We also expect that ATI will make a big deal with its 55 nanometer support, but we expect that a lot of the press will burn ATI for the HD 3xx0 names if they decide to go down that path.

We heard the overclocking headroom for GeForce 8800 GT is pretty impressive mainly due to the finer 65nm process technology. However, Nvidia has purposely limits the core clock at 600MHz so its performance won't get too close to the GeForce 8800 GTS thereby hurt its sales. However, users can still choose to overclock the core and we should be seeing more than 700MHz easily. However, if Radeon HD 2950PRO performance comes too close for comfort, Nvidia might increase the core clock further.
