Geforce 8800 GT First Review --Awesomness

probably another fake. Just wait for the thing to release or a review on a trusted site.

a 8800gtx retails for $499-$549 but only marginally out performs the GT (according to that link) that costs half as much ....that makes no sense whatsoever ..ATI isnt a threat to the GTX why would they come out with a card that competes with their own top tier cards? they'd be shooting themselves in the foot ...if those benchmarks are correct expect the GT 512 to cost substantially more than $250 ..I'm thinking in the $400-450 range

Exactly, why would nvidia trash their own market. It's not like there's massive competition out there. It's probably a fake like Brick said.

it doesnt matter the GT is competing with the GTX and GTS not the 2950, they'd be stupid to compete against themselves ..nvidia isnt stupid

These new cards from ATI and Nvidia are 65nm, which dont cost much to manufacture and require less power. and the Geforce 8800GT is meant to compete with the new ATI 2950, also I heard they will cut the GTS line and replace it with GT.

What im interested in is the new nvidia cards. Any news on those? How about the new intel cpu's?

that doesnt make sense ..why would the gt compete with ati's top card? that's what the gtx and ultra are for ..why would they cost half as much as an ati card yet be it's equal or better?

the GTS is not being discontinued, the 320mb version is being discontinued and the 640mb version is getting a revision ..so that means that the GT is underpowered in comparison ..they would they position the GT above the GTS yet sell it for less than the GTS? ..makes absolutely no sense to do that

None of it makes sense anymore. I think I'm going to disconnect myself from the hardware world till February 2008.

Shack: Do you have any insight to how well the upcoming range of cards will support Crysis, not just on the high end but lower down the ladder as well?

Cevat Yerli: Very, very well. Stay tuned for more on this. In mid November you will see the new NVidia cards. They are a blast for Crysis and really, really very good deals.

So i guess they are coming!

I'd love to see those cards

they're referring to the 8800GT ..there is no upgrade to the to tier till after the new year, the only new cards planned for Nov are the 8800GT ..although there's speculation there may be a 8850gtx update in november but that's just rumour however I think it's doubtful unless Ati's update is a 8800gtx killer

I do not believe those prices. Because I'd be ripped off with my $290 8800GTS if they were true.

Yeah that has to be fake, other wise people who bought GTS's just got ripped off
(woot first post!!!)

psh ripped off

its technology which is always upgrading every 6 months. you can be ripped off from an old product that is slower.

SLI these babies =O rawr. 2x 512 8800gt = affordable 1gb of graphics PWN.

I really think those GT scores are BS... cheaper than a GTS AND more powerful? zzz... If they do revise the GTS 640mb cards, what would that mean for people like me that currently have 1 and are looking to SLI them in the future? We should be able to trade our old ones in for a new one in that case :/

It'd still be 512mbs. SLI does not mean vRAM values are added, but each card's ram is used to render half of the output.

You crushed my dreams :'( what exactly would be the advantage of SLI then? I'm kind of a newbie to the dual graphics card theory, I know more about HDD raids and such.

Each card's GPU is doing half of the work, resulting in an increase in performance overall. Less to render = more juice used in rendering.

What gets me is that the card is due for release on Monday and yet no major site has reviewed one yet... very suss to me

But those sites sign NDAs. They won't be posting any review til the NDA expires and they can tell all about that cool product they were previously told not to talk about.

read somewhere that it would still work in sli regardless of which version it was ...which sounds a little iffy if you ask me

SLI used to be really strict. Had to be the same model, bios version, etc. But I don't think it's that way now.

So, wouldnt that make its the same as 1gb of vRAM? I mean, yeah its not technically 1gb, but it can handle the same as 1 right?

I have to wait a week or two before any of these cards show up in Aus. Although my supplier should at least give me a decent suggested retail price tomorrow.

Cool, now I get to see the $100 price increase per unit when it shows up here...dammit.

No, because if it has to render half the scene on one card and half on the other...it will load the textures needed TWICE (once in each card). It splits up the load on the CORE but still the same memory needed to do any rendering on a card.

Geforce 8800GT is faster than RV670XT (TOFUGil):

But the die is bigger and there is no DX10.1

Nvidia's original plan was to price the D8P/G92 at $ / €299, but ATI’s aggressive pricing changed Nvidia’s mind. All the early adopters of 8800GT have to thank ATI for the $249 and $199 prices for these cards at launch.

We can now confirm that Geforce 8800GT will win against RV670XT, clocked at 825MHz with the DDR4 memory at 2400MHz. Nvidia’s chip is more powerful and faster in most of the games and synthetic benchmarks; but, at the same time, the chip generates more heat, it's 65 nanometer and it is more expensive for Nvidia to make.

As a consumer you don't need to worry about these things; but knowing how the new ATI thinks, we can bet that RV670XT / PRO and GT will end up lower priced than Nvidia prices and this will be their way to fight Nvidia.

We also expect that ATI will make a big deal with its 55 nanometer support, but we expect that a lot of the press will burn ATI for the HD 3xx0 names if they decide to go down that path.

Overclocking Information (Dexash):

riginally Posted by http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeForce_8800_GT_Overclocking_Is_Good/5312.html
We heard the overclocking headroom for GeForce 8800 GT is pretty impressive mainly due to the finer 65nm process technology. However, Nvidia has purposely limits the core clock at 600MHz so its performance won't get too close to the GeForce 8800 GTS thereby hurt its sales. However, users can still choose to overclock the core and we should be seeing more than 700MHz easily. However, if Radeon HD 2950PRO performance comes too close for comfort, Nvidia might increase the core clock further.

I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong ..yes let me repeat that, Stern was wrong

however wtf is nvidia thinking? there is no reason to buy a gts or gtx video card when the gt gets better (gts) and almost as good (gtx) performance at half the price ..there's going to be a hell of a lot of $400+ video cards sitting on store shelves for months to come ..why would they intentionally compete with themselves?

the upcoming revision of the GTS 640mb seems needless as it would be sitting between the GT and the GTX at the same price point ..so for substantially less you could get a gt and still compete with the top tier cards
