I'm pretty sure that DX10 pic is a render of what they hope to archive with DX10 in that game. Read that in one of the articles. I don't think I have seen a real DX10 pic yet.

Looks huge... I just hope this won't be the trend of the next-gen GPU's. Sure, increases in performance are nice. But people with HTPC case's won't like the size (like me). Need the performance but not the size...

The next-gen GPU's seem to draw out a lot of power I just hope this won't show up too much as heating.

But yea. These cards are the first generation of the next-gen (sounds funny ). The size (and power effiency) will or may be better with the second generation. My guess is that after these cards we'll be needing case's just for the GPU's .

Well, if that is indeed the case, then having the performance of a X1950XTX crossfire setup in a single card is pretty impressive !! I'm also slightly worried about the ever expanding sizes of graphics cards though, plus the fact that the cooler shown in the pictures at the start of the thread looks worryingly like an enlarged version of that on the 6800 ultras, which sounded like vacuum cleaners !!

Half Life 2: Lost Coast loves the GeForce 8800GTX. Here the GeForce 8800GTX is able to show significant performance gains over AMD’s ATI Radeon X1950 XTX—approximately 92%.

Quake 4 shows similar gains as Half Life 2: Lost Coast too, an approximate 92% improvement.

Prey is based on the same game engine as Quake 4. However, Prey shows smaller performance differences between the GeForce 8800GTX and ATI Radeon X1950 XTX, albeit its still 60%.

Buying two first generation DX10 cards is just silly. When 'proper' DX10 games arrive you'll find yourself with the 2 worst DX10 cards on the market, which will have been surpassed by cooler, cheaper, more efficient and powerful single card solutions.

The only decent reason to pick up a 8800 is for increased performance in DX9.

yes, this is a directx 10 card, and directx 10 is vista only, so you'll need vista as someone (cant remember who) said these cards wont be compatible to the standard direct x 9.

RnL you are COMPLETELY wrong. Dx10 cards are perfectly compatible with Dx9. In fact ATI even stated that there first gen Dx10 cards will not will be prioritized to improving Dx9 speed not Dx10 speed.

Dx10 however cannot run on Xp.

Doesn't change a thing on my point. Vista uses a slightly changed Dx9 that supports its new Strict Graphic Driver Module.
However Dx10 cards are still fully support Dx10 and Dx9. Dx9 extends to Xp and Vista and older OS's.
