Generic Steam Offline problem no. 394

Ummm...

Offline mode dosn't work!

Ok, we start up steam. It offers to trouble-shoot or start in offline mode, BUT if i click the offline mode button it tries to log on through the internet, fails, and offers the "check steampowered.com for more information!" box. Any idea's what's going on? I can access it normally through the internet, i'd just like to have offline mode around.

i had this EXACT same prob, i had to log back on then net, for some reason it took like 5 tries too, then u gotta right click the steam icon in teh tray, then go to exit, then u should beable to get on in offline mode, o yeah u might have to do some updates or whatever
