The only game I know of that supported doing this was Red Faction, as its kind of Gimmick. I know its not very good for Single player, but I would like to do it in a mod if possible.

They say everything has a mass. Does anyone know if walls have a "non-destructable setting" in the Singleplayer which you can disable?

I suppose this would need some kind of dynamic re-modelling like what u can do with the floor, and is probably very hard too do and not in it, but we can all dream can't we :)

I don't want to be Emailing Gabe with all my little thoughts, so If anyone is sending him an email anyway and could just add that too the bottom? :)

INstead of posting shit like: "It's already been discussed" and so on, why don't you answer the guy.

We have already discussed everything that can be discussed. So it's either we're gona discuss it again or not discuss anything at all. :)

but its already been discussed. lmao

sorry im usually nicer, yes geo-mod'ish shit is possible its up to the map-maker and a number of other things

edit: im a prowler woot

oh, sorry, Ill just go an remember to use the search feature :)

It is actually getting to that point where everything has been discussed. That should be an indication that we need some new info!! :D

I doubt you'll see anything that could be described as "geo-modish" in HL2, but I think it is possible in Source. It's a design limitation not a technical limitation and surprise surprise, it'd be an easy mod. Maybe not easy, but I'm sure it could be done.

It maybe possible via the maps dynamic displacement maps, but I can imagine it being very resource hungry.

Oh now im thinking CS assualt with an assault vehicle and a few breaching charges... would make the map a lot better wouldn't you say? :)

errrr you dont get banned for adding pointless posts to already pointless threads do you? Shit :|

hmmm, anything CS added to a game instantly kills it...

lol, I dont think so.. but yeah that would be cool... there is a version of cs_assult with a stationary chopper that shoots things

Well HL2 uses the same "first person" perspective you see in CS. Damn I'm not buying it. :)

Methinks there some "Anti-CS for the sake of it" around here. Not everything in CS is bad. Its just the underground popular = bad thing.

On the other hand, you have a scary avatar. Thusly let me state for the Record CS is utter sh*te and anything based on it is. Now im going to hide.

True, my friend found Headcrabs the scariest thing in HL.

damn straight... although for me it was zombies... especially during scriped sequences

Oh I don't know - we can make bizarre and desperate speculations over the story based on minor aspects of specific textures. Or nit-pick over videos we've already seen to the point where people want to kill each other.
And then talk about the release date... ("OMG!!!!1! Gabe sed no comment!! Dat is teh scary!!11!!")
<Dies> (Yeah, you're not the only one who does that)

Really alb? They were so easy to kill, though. The headcrabs scared the living crotch out of me at the very very beginning when one of them teleports right in front you, dropping from the ceiling just as you got passed the room with the big green lightning bolts... The Alien Grunts scared me but mainly 'cause they were hard bast*rds (am I allowed to say that word properly?). Same for the Icthyosaurs. And let us not forget the mighty Gargantua... Ooooh deary. Run awaaaay...

I can't see the dynamic stuff will be possible with Source - I'm sure I read somewhere that they're using BSP + PVS?* That sounds pretty static to me.

* PVS= Potentially Visible Set, a technique where you precalculate which bits of the scenery are visible from each region, thereby saving rendering time.

I can already see it! People blowing holes in sky textured brushes! And then demons coming through those holes! AWWW THE END IS NEAR!

Hmm I'm not an expert in these things, but to my understanding a displacement map is just a matrix which tells every point where his new position is, but there are no new connections made in between these points. So I dont think it would not be possible to shoot a hole in a wall just with the use of displacement maps.

Anyone ever play the vehicular combat games vigilante 8 and Vigilate 8 second offense? There was a super weapon combo called the crater maker which did just that and it was not geo-mod but it was deformable displacement mapping which created actual physical craters when the weapon hit the ground.

Soory for being so random just wanted to point oit HL2 will prob be the same.

hmmm, anyone remember sacrifice? A wierd and twisted action-strategy game made by shiny, with great looking graphics (until today).
It was completely 3d (used messiah-engine for full scalability), and it was about the fight of some gods. You were a sorcerer and you could command armys of wierd creatures, and you could also make magic.

Some of those spells included terrain-deforming magic, such as a vulcano that suddenly grew out of the ground in middle of a fight between hundreds of creatures (d*mn, that was a great spell!). Another one simply let a whole appear in the ground.

It wasn't a geo-mod effect, it was also made by displacement maps i think.

A volcano spell was in populous3: the beginning, and was exactly the same. And there was earthquake too, which shaked and altered the ground while it was active (best to destroy enemy buildings). That was a COOL game! (even better than Black and White!)

yah, CS deffinetetly needs offical maps with vehicles again. it worked so well and everyone enjoyed it, the games were more balanced and everyone took it seriously. i cant remember a single time when someone ran over someone else on purpose. /sarcasm
