George Broussard (creator of Duke Nukem)'s take on 3rd Preload

Well, at least the guy has a sense of humor. You would need it working on that game!

Yes very funny.

Now would someone please de-instestinate that piece of excrement. George Broussard you are spawn of satan!!

We are but mortal men kneeing at the altar. :bounce:

so...um.. let me get this straight here.. the DNF team is busy waiting around to play HL2 instead of working on the game? im sure DNF fans are happy knowing this

I can't see why people hassle George, he has never (as far as I can remember) announced a release date. They are quietly working on what is promising to be one of the best games of our time (such was Duke Nukem, DN2 and Duke 3d).

Even if you don't announce a release date you can piss people off by switching engines multiple times and having a development process that lasts nearly a decade.

Nah, it's like Half Life 2 in that it doesn't exist.

Lol@ my first (and last) anti-Valve joke. D: Oh noes!

3D Realms (and Mr Broussard himself) have announced several release dates ("dates" is the wrong word. "Years" is probably more appropriate).

It's going to have to be the best game in the world, ever to justify the 9 years it's taken them.

You mean the physics engine it has will have to affect the nude females' chests in some way, as nude females will abound in it.

Yeah I've thought about that before.

No matter what they release, it'll will ONLY be viewed through the lens of its hellish development. 3DRealms haven't dug themselves into a hole, they dug themselves into a bottomless pit.

Well, that goes without saying...

glah!
broussard is not valves bitch he's an attention whore..

Hehe, I like George, funny man :)

And give DNF a break, you all know as well as I do that when DNF news is brought out and it looks good, you'll all go: "yeah, it rocks, I always had faith in the game, rock on 3D Realms!"

Yeah, this is correct. He has said things like it will definitely be out in 2001 and it will definitely be out before Doom 3.

He hasn't given any of these loose release dates lately. He appears to have learned his lesson.

I think the frustration with DNF is that they released that big trailer (a few years back), and the game looked amazing (for the time), and fairly complete, then they decide to pull it back and rejig everything. Sounds to me from what I've read that George just keeps seeing stuff in new engines and going 'hey, that looks cool, lets get some of that in DNF!!' which just adds further delay as things get rejigged. Duke was never a serious game, so I'm not entirely convinced it needs a serious engine with bells and whistles a plenty.

Just to bring up another theory, but what if 3DRealms took the source engine and already finished duke nukem forever? So they would also have to wait for HL2 to be released before they are allowed to reveal something ... just a thought ;)

They pissed off fans (like me) by hyping the game since it was a bunch of sketches on a drawing board! They were saying "when it's done" DECADES ago (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little...but it WAS a long time).

I prefer the Valve method...wait till you actually HAVE a game before you start hyping it up...

something should be clearified.

1. 3drealms gave release dates several times. they said, it would be released in 1998, than 1999, than 2000. or rather indirectly, like "it will be the best game of 199x". the meaning is the same.

after that time period, they decided to better just STFU, and leaving it at "When it's done".

2. this game is in development since what? almost 7 years? but if you think, "omg, dnf must be one hell of a game!" because of that, you should forget that. george broussard said, they started over (not the first time) in the end of 2002/beginning of 2003. so all, what is in the game, right now, is from this time around until today. i think, they kept only some minor stuff from the years before it.

but also VALVe's method took unfortunatly a bad "ending" ... just look around :rolling:

3DRealms must have been developing their own engine. I mean they started DNF before VALVe started HL-2 (and probably before id started DooM 3) so in that time they could have easily built their own engine. Yet they'll probably come out with an updated Unreal 2 engine or something.

The irony!!

3D Realms started DNF straight after DN3D, so that's 9 years. It predates Half-Life, Quake 2, Quake 3, Doom 3.

That's not actually Broussard. Someone just guessed his password was Georgeb. :p

I think it's pretty obvious why he wants HL2 to be released:
So he can switch DNF to the source engine!

Nah...couldn't be. Source doesn't have the ability to realistically simulate silicone. :naughty:

"That's a design decision, not a technical limitation" :p

Or possibly more accurately... "You could do it in a mod" :naughty:

Maybe DNF is going to be on the Half-Life 2 engine :p That's why he's valves bitch. He can't say anything till HL2 comes out. Or is it a shot at John R for the old Daikatana ads? Or just plain fun? Any which way you look at it. Gave me a laugh.

3DRealms are just collecting lots and lots of textures at the minute, it just so happens that those textures are of naked women.

I find hl2 fanboys flaming DNF for being late quite ironic considering Valve are doing THE EXACT SAME THING.

"Itll be out in september for sure"
"make that holidays"
"spring"
"summer"
"fall"
"........" <---Valve finaly shutting the hell up and working on the game instead of picking random dates they will never achieve.
