Get DirectX 10 NOW

But it doesn't, and there aren't viruses :-P. If windows had good security.... viruses wouldn't as much of a problem.
What problem? I can't seem to find any virus problems.

And whether or not windows comes with a desktop pc isn't really important to any gamer, because most gamers (at least that I know) don't buy pc's from companies such as DELL or what not, because they want a machine that can run their games well. So they build their own, and HAVE to buy an OS. Which is why I got linux.
If were talking about games...WELL THATS QUITE THE BLOW TO LINUX. Do I have to say more? Also in that case wtf were you talking about Open Office for? Hell I could hardly get UT2004 to install on Linux. Was not a very user friendly process.
And I built my computer. Whats an extra $100 onto $1500?. Hell just in order to get WINE to play the games it does play at the same speed as Windows you'll have to even buy better parts putting the cost even higher. So yeah....you do not get Linux for playing games.

but I have yet to pay for a program for linux.
So what is your point here? You havn't had to pay for a program for linux either. The only thing I've had to pay-software on Windows is....err....let me think... hey nothing!

Yum is another thing linux has that makes using windows a pain. Yum allows you to get a program, without even having to search for it on the net. For instance I could type "yum install xIRC" it then downloads and install the program xIRC for me.
Omgz, wow. Such a program that could only possibly ever be made on Linux!

You still havn't givin me a better reason why Linux is better?
-Viruses? Maybe before SP2....

And I haven't had a problem with drivers except the ATI ones,
Well my wireless and sound dosn't seem to like Linux very much. And when installing the damn Nvidia driver it was a much much longer process than doing it on Xp.

Hah, im 12 years old because I know how to use linux? 0_o, whatever you say. Stick with windows, I'll save a couple hundred dollars because I use a free OS :). An OS that comes with a program called "open office" same as microsoft office, except one big difference.... it's free. instead of 300$.

I didn't pay a dime for XP or Office 2003. So...I guess technically I saved a couple hundred dollars. I work at an IT company so we get most of our software from MS directly. That and...*cough* torrents/newsgroups for home use only pwn.

Heh, ok so according to you, you've never payed for a windows program, and never had any virus or spyware trouble.

And according ot the other guy your solution to the expensive microsoft programs is torrent... aka stealing it.
Alright it's obvious its pointless arguing with you. Toodles.

Cant get DX10 without Vista noobs. They will put trusted computing on your computer when full vista comes out. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1H7omJW4TI)
have fun
nope, tc, palladium or whatever buzz word you want to use isn't being fully implemented into vista and there isn't even the hardware (chipset) for it and they aren't expected for a long time.

also, apple already has trusted computing chipets on their computers and they are implemented within osx.

that video was really well made, though i would've worked more on a few things, like the typography.

what was the last major virus road ? karma sutra ? oh wait, that was suppose to be worse than msblaster and all the others, yet it failed because people actually updated for once.. so was it sasser or something ?

most of the huge viruses only took off because users don't update, like with msblaster (patch was available a few months before iirc).

seriously, the old "winblows is full of v1ruse$ lolz" is rather dead (i'm not saying there are no viruses, there are still a ton being made but win xp security-wise is better and users are smarter, a few years ago everyone would've opened any file in an email/im client, but now i know alot of people who will think about it, or ask someone first).

also, with 1 or 2 free apps you can more or less keep your pc 99% clean from spyware/malware/adware/viruses/trojans; actually, my grandma doesn't have any extras installed on her pc (though she should) and she has been using it for a long time (a year or a bit more) and the only problems she's ever had are just some software problems or her not knowing how to do something.

think of a new argument and also, you're a good example why linux hasn't taken off in the desktop market, you pro-linux zealots simply don't get it and are too absorbed with the apparent superiority of foss.

- ms software isn't really expensive, most people can get it through the company they work for, or if you're a student, through where ever you're being educated or you can get student discounts @ stores, or buy a any normal, average pc which will most likely come with xp, office & other software @ little extra cost and so on.
- to play a 'decent' amount of games (though with horrible performance and pains in actually getting it working, or finding the right engine) you have to PAY for cedega (lol, good luck with the cvs version, it's bad enough with a gui).

i don't get why people expect to have software for free, that's just ignorant.. people have jobs, like to create software so they can support a family and so on, expecting all software to be free, or complaining about having to pay is just lame.

there are costs involved with software development, especially when you're creating a huge piece of software like a operating system which is used by some 95% (or so) of people world wide (excluding servers), has to have incredible backwards compatability, support an insane amount of hardware and so on.

open source is great, i use freebsd or openbsd for servers and i carry backtrack live cd with my laptop and i have it installed on another partition on one of my pcs, but the rubbish you're saying makes me hate using open source solutions, your blind zealous promotion is annoying, like how i pretty much avoid saying i use a mac so i don't have to get involved in the ignorant, windwos is the devil community.

lol @ the creator of this thread, soo clueless.

Heh, ok so according to you, you've never payed for a windows program, and never had any virus or spyware trouble.
Besides games no.
And after that blaster(?) virus which hit damn near everbody no. Overall since Sp2 all secruity flaws have been fixed. Since Sp2 I have never had a problem with viruses or spyware. Also before that blaster virus I had never had any trouble either.
The virus was also pretty simple to fix. Was big but had a very quick fix.

Eff the Windows vs. Lunix discussion. Use whatever the hell you want to use. I'm more than happy with the simplicity of XP, others are not. Thats all there is to it.

And about the original intent of this thread: My games run worse (if at all) on Vista than on XP.

Dumb Dude your testing a beta Vista. It is running with no optimizations. It has tons of debugging software in the background.

You wanna know something even more major?
The graphic drivers for Vista are incredibly crappy. They are extremely early. Like unbelivable early.....infact considering all this I would think they would run Worse. All they do right now is get the game to run. They take the functions and get em through. There early and unoptimized.

Basically all drivers have to be redesigned for Vista. They are having major changes because they now have to follow a strict guideline....no more developers writing 4 different ways for something. This will also increase performance.

:| I didn't say I expected it to run better. I know about everything you posted, I ain't that dumb. I was merely letting the original poster know that his claim of them running faster is false.
