I am thinking of getting into the game industry in a couple of years, u guyz know any sites with info on it , i am curious to see what is required and recommended , education , salary ..... thanx and dont forget to participate in da pole

Your definatly gonna be required a very special skill. Good story writers seem to be needed for the most part. *snickers*

It's not in my plans right now, but who knows where life will take you ya know, I will probably do something with computers though.

Well after visiting Valve I have clearly decided that that is the kind of job I want to have and that is what I want to do for the rest of my life... I particularly want to work at Valve as it is in my state and I want to stay in WA... So in order to do that I am learning every possible thing I can about the tools they use and make, the games they make, and how they work. I hope to eventually apply there as a 3d modeller/texturer/animator and a level designer. I have been working with Hammer a lot and XSI to achieve this.

Anyway.. I am definately going to the game industry if the game industry wants me. Either way, I am on my way to a education of Computer Science, so I'll be programmin something.

:| Do you have to have good mathematical skills?

Well the game industry is so broad it depends what you want to get into. Do you want to report on them or make them? If you want to make them do you want to animate, write, code engines, motion capture, design, etc etc etc
Its gotten to the point where almost any skill can be applied towards game design.

Meh, apparently I graduate college next year and I am supposed to be an accountant of some sort.

One recommendation, don't just learn about designing/coding/modelings/mapping, learn about the business aspect of the industry. I guarentee if you go in for a job interview and you are able to show that you know about the business side of the industry, you will be hired. In case you didn't understand what I mean, take a couple of business classes when you are in college.

Also, don't get yourself delusional about getting a job in the game industry unless you are really good at it. That is the same reason I am an accounting major, not an art major.

I plan on going into computer security.

Just for the simple fact that there will always be people trying to hack into places.

I voted no but maybe I could work for Valve. ;) :D

I am stilly young, but at this moment, I plan on getting into the game industry.

i AM in the game industry.

Its not as flashy as many of you youngsters think. Its a LOT of work to get in, and then when your in, you start at the bottom.... literally, better get those kneepads ready boys.

(i never had to go through that though, im good :p)

Flashy? LMAO.. I don't see anybody in this thread claiming that. From what I know, it is far from it.

I'm majoring in Computer Science while in college. I'm going to get an internship at a company near my college. They tend to give good interns a offer for a full time job so when they graduate they already have some place to go. I'm going to try to get in that and if I like it there I'll stay as long as need be. If I feel like I want to get into the gaming industry the experience will help a little.

I'm hoping to maybe be able to get into either the game industry or the TV industry as a writer.
I'm also taking computer science in high school.

I have a game storyline, characters, events, concept art etc all done up, im just waiting for funds to start up a development company to release it.

Before that happens i'm gonna try to get into QA Technician or jusdt a down and dirty tester.

I certainly wouldn't mind working in the game industry, but I don't have the required skills.

I hope to, since my life pretty much revolves around games already I masewell try and get paid for it.

I am interested in the Story side of games, and I love to write, especially creative writing as oppose to analytical writing (which I suck at).
