Hi everyone,

I just bought the retail standard pack of HL2, and when i try it run it, or Cs:s, it crashes before the menu saying i dont have a directx7+ video card.
As in the title, Im running a GeForce 4 Ti4400, and it works on my brothers comp which has a Gf2MX400. What is going on?!
NB. i have installed the latest drivers, 77.72 i think they are.

Please help I really want to play this game!

cheers,
Mark

Before noobs jump in and tell you to go get a new card, I'll just pop in say that this card is easily capable of running hl2 and cs:s on medium settings at 60 to 100 fps.

That said, I have no idea what could be causing your problem.

Yeah it should be running it pretty well. Try installing an earlier driver and see if that helps.

And make sure you do all the windows updates (beside SP2).

Probably a stupid suggestion, but do you have the latest directx version, 9.0c?

Maybe try reinstalling steam and the hl2.Also try omegadrivers.net.

Do you have other games working on that computer? Have you installed the motherboard chipset drivers?

Well if he does all the Windows Updates he'll get the latest version of DX.

a big THANK YOU to everyone that posted!

the omega drivers ended up fixing the problem.
next time major official updates come out ill give them a go, but its fine for the time being.

cheers

I think that the newer drivers dropped support for some stuff on older cards.

I think you don't know what in the hell you're talking about.
