I've got an X800 XT PE (agp - had it a long time) ... and its been fine for a long time ... but now, when I turn my PC on, the fan on it rattles its little arse off for about 5 - 10 minutes (till the card warms up and sorts it out) ... Is this a sign of impending doom? I don't want to fork out for a new rig, but at the same time I don't want to fork out for a new (old) agp card.

Has anyone else had this issue with old Radeon fans going wobbly?

Have you checked out the fan? After so much time there could be so much crap in it that it stalls. Blow it out with compressed air, put a bit of non conductive grease or oil in the fan (you'll have to take the heatsink appart for that probably) and it'll run at it's best.

Yeah usually when I get a rattly fan I just take the vac to it and vac all the dust off ... I tried, cleaned it up, but the rattle remains. I think it's a bad bearing on the fan (it is a little old now). Would it instantly fry the card if the fan fell off? Can I get another fan for it?

Yeah I think it would be best if you got a different fan or even a new cooler. Not sure about your model, but most radeon cards can handle high temps till they crash without frying the card, but it does happen. Download ATITool to check temps.

You'll want to buy a new cooler. Fans just go bad sometimes. /shrug
