gfx card recommendation

For the most part, I don't play very many demanding games, aside from Doom 3 and HL2/CS:S. Other than that, it's usually CS 1.6.

Would a 6600 GT be fine for these games at 1280x1024 at the highest settings (besides AA anf Anisotropic filtering)?

By fine i mean at least 40 FPS and higher.

thanks.

System Specs (if anyone needs them):

Athlon X2 3800+
MSI Radeon Xpress 200 mobo
x2 512 MB PC3200 RAM

The 6600GT will be totally fine for CS:S and HL2 at that resolution. In doom 3 you might need to turn down some of the visual settings to get it to run smoothly, but it will certainly run it, and although your cpu is dual core and I don't think games make use of the 2nd core, it is still fast and will help too.

my recommendation: get an ATI card instead...

HL2 is very CPU limited, I changed my settings from 1024*768 medium with no AA/AF to 1280*1024 max settings, max AA/AF and there was NO CHANGE in the frame rate (I'm on a 6600GT btw).

u willl be able to play all high settings at that resolution wthout aa and af perfectly fine i wouldnt no the excact fps but its alot more than 40

6600gt is perfect for those, but for Doom 3 make sure you get the card with 256mb.
I run HL2 at full with higher settings than that on my 9800pro and the 6600gt is even faster

My old ass Geforce FX5600 can run Doom3 and Half Life 2 with high setting... so I'm guessing you can play F.E.A.R. with normal or high setting on 6600GT.

doom 3 and hl2 dont have as high demand for high end gfx hardware as F.E.A.R. does
