Well im not quite sure what temperature my card should be at when its under extreme usage. I just had a 3 hour session on Bf2, 1024*786, all full Gfx. and the top temperature for my Gfx core was 82 degrees celcius, with an ambient temp of 50. Is this ok? should it be lower, if so i will buy an artic cooling fan, the case is well cooled but im worried about the core, sorry if its been asked 10000 times.

Cheers in advance. Pie

take into account 82 is the very max it went to. it idles at 52. and usually about 70 while in game

CPUs turn off or lower clockspeed at 70-75C.
My Nvidia 6800GT lists 120C as the Core slowdown threshold by default.

I am hitting 85C as I speak (playing WoW). GFX cards can go higher than CPUs for normal operation. Now if you see artifacts on the screen then start to think about extra cooling.

I have the same card and noticed the slowdown threshold but you can never trust them really, but if your running WoW @ that temp with no troubles i think i should be fine, and i dont get any aftifacts or snow, so im not too worried, better to be safe than sorry though.

I had a couple of Gigabyte 6800gts that used to hit the 80s and 90s- they had turd HSFs on them, and i was getting artifacts. I always thought an idle temp of between 45 and 65C was fairly normal for 6800gts.
Mate, I wouldnt worry about it- in fact ignore your temps from now on unless you're getting artifacts or slowdown- the 6800gt is made to run a lot hotter than other graphics cards.
