i dunno if this was already pointed out, sorry if it was. but in the e3 videos it already showed gibbing in the crane part. if you look when he shoots the ant things they kinda explode and their body parts fly off. i think this is how they will implement gibbing. kinda like you lose body parts from where the last shot is if your killed and if the shot is powerful enough. sorry if this has been mentioned. (probably was) This is my 2bits on this.

MUST NOT HIGHLIGHT SPOILER!!!! *highlights it* ARGGGGG! :O :frown:

We know the ant lions gib...what we havent seen is humanoids gib.

one thing that bugs (no pun intended) me though, is the bit with the razorblades, you see him aiming at the stomach for a second, but then aims for the neck, and shoots, but he still gibs at the stomach...

We have also seen the zombie gibs, which is in the Traptown Binks video.

And also the saw blade part. I wish he chucked the table to. :D

combines might just be too cool for gibbing and goring up the game.
For some reason, it makes more sense in video games that monsters and zombies should be blastable, but not armored humans. beats me, but that's what my brain is used to.

What makes you think their Humans?...

poor germans who woun't get any of this(probably)

Anyway, I think only gibbing for aliens is enough....but, it would look a bit wierd seeing a combine getting hit by a saw blade without atleast getting a realy nasty flesh wound.

^^ that's what i was thinking. what if they are robotical or something, then would they be too tough to gib? "it's a design choice..."

:naughty: Gibbing cool, let's shoot off body parts now!

hmm gibbing with human npc's is probably going to be unlikely. theres no evidence yet anyway, but even if it isnt im sure itll turn up in some mods here and there.

That would be so f'd up if there was no human gibbing... it'd only be half as fun as it would be...

dont expect the combine soldiers to be robotic or alien.. As I understand the whole combine army is made of diffrent races, so I would expect humans to be included in that. maby thats what the arrest's are for.. becoming combine soldiers.. slavery.. might be the reason the combine are on earth.

even the word combine means combining and harvesting..
harvest/enslaves diffrent creatures and races trough the border worlds and combining them into one army. contantly plundering worlds and making thier attack force stronger.

Thats what my idea about this whole combine thing is.

whatever race they may be, I shoulda said humonoids.

Then again, zombies are humonoids. How about non-squishy humanoids shouldn't gib?

I don't know hwat I'm talking abute, don't mind me

Ya know it;d be awesome if higher level aliens gibbed but didn't die, like you maybe could shoot off a leg and it could still walk towards you (kinda in a sense like the zombies) the zombies you can cut in half but they still go for you. who says thats only restricted to zombies?

precisely how i feel. if a grenade a combine soldier, i wont mind if they fly through a pane of glass, but the zombies loosing their legs is cool.

How about realistic damage modeling? The word "gibbing" conjures images of big bloody chunks flopping about ala Quake 3 and UT, which has gotten old. I dunno about you, but for me the immersion of a game is broken anytime I shoot a shotgun at a human and they turn into goo. "Gibbing" might have it's place in FPS games, but HL2 isn't one of them, IMHO.

The antlion explosions are just fine, though.

If they put in human gibbing, we wouldn't be able to make combine fly in the air with rockets like in the E3 movies :(

That would make me sad *sniffle*

What spoiler, there is none to highlight
To the topic, I agree, thats probably gibbing

I've already said this in another thread called "Gibs!!!". Grenades do not gib humanoids in real life, and neither do rockets. They rip with shrapnel and are concussive. The rocket shot at the combine soldier on the crane hit behind him, causing him to fly to the left. Also in the barricade video, grenades ripped and tossed the combine soldiers, as they should. Perhaps if a rocket directly impaled a combine, or a combine soldier was hit with some kind of explosives, then they might would gib. So far, that has not happened. Rockets/Grenades are not do not kill in that manner.

Bah. I always found that, in multiplayer, when someone falls to his/her death from a few stories high, it's always satisfying to see the model gib on impact.

*trips on top of building* - "YAAAAAAAarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrheeeeeeeeellppppp!!" - *gib*

muahahahha! :E

Why shouldn't we have human gibbing in a game, where we fight zombies, monsters with energy cannons and 3 legs, rolling energy bally things and a scientist who can carry 29382 weapons in his guybrush/simon HEV?

Unrealistic? *cough* :hmph:

that's a little different, why have physics could also be asked...cos it's cool. Why have no gibbing on combine...cos it's processor happy or because it would look weird or because Gabe thinks combine deserve to stay in one piece.

There's a reason games are escapist but we can enjoy some degree of reality.

I'm neither an expert on the matter nor a big fan of gibbing but it seems to me that it's pretty far fetched to say that not having gibbing would be more processor happy than using the current rag doll physics.

Wouldn't it be the other way around?

ever seen the gibs in ut2k4 ? they look like crap, in hl2 it would just ruin the realism

I could care less whether HL2 is realistic or not.. Gibbing or not, I'll like it either way. I'm just trying to say that the argument that a humanoid being hit a rocket/grenade realistically should blow to chunks, is not true. But i'm sure there will be gibbing, as long as they're hit with REAL explosives, not shrapnel based weapons such as an RPG or a grenade. A block of C4, for example, should turn anything into chunks. :)

the whole point is to make the game as realistic as possible so that things like monsters and crazy weapons and whatnot DO seem more realistic than they should be. obviously all the aliens and futuristic stuff isn't too realistic when compared to the real world, but the more you can make the world that these things appear in realistic the more everything else will be believable resulting in a much more immersive experience.

if we use sawblades on combine or any human it should gib if we hit their limbs, but if we hit their stomach it should just stick in them which would be so damn sweet.

edit - someone should mod it so if u use a saw blade on a humans they gib. imagine chucking a saw blade at alyx's head, and then her head just rolls off her body and her body drops to the ground....../ejactulates.

I hope you'll get to gib Combine guys too, not just zombies. With nades and stuff.
