with that I mean what are THE BEST specs you can think of today, and how much would it cost to buy it all. Excluding graphics card I want the next gen ATI cards :p

I'm thinking of starting to work and upgrade mine part by part.

What I was thinking:

2GB RAM memory
500GB HD (maybe I can hook up 2! *zomg the dreams*) + 120GB external
AMD 4800+ Atlhon 64 X2 dual core processor

lol wow thats going to be around 4.5k and i would recommend dual WD raptors over a 500gb they are much faster

maybe a Creative Xi-Fi Fatal1y Sound Card.

(how does fatal1ty get so much cool stuff? lol)

Get dual dual core processors, on a SLI motherboard, 2 7800 GTX's and 4 gigs of ram. *creams*

he already said dual caore processor, but ya dual 7800gtx's and 4gigs would be better
nForce4 mobo

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 850 PSU

dual dual core processor would mean.
2 Dual Core Processors..

But yeah 2 500gig HD's would be amazing. Make sure you get a very nice powersupply and water cooling!

Dual core processors suck. They cost to much and they do to little:

NEWSFLASH!!! A dual core processor is not any faster than a 3.2Ghz or whatever the chip is. Dual core means it can run many programs at the same time without lag (about 2 or 3 major programs).

Don't waste your money on that. Besides, the dual core processors are not even fully functional with the software yet.

DONT forget a sweet ass case, and a sweet ass liquid cooling system, with sweet ass neon lights, and a sweet ass monitor

And a sweet-ass chair.

i got access forbidden too, just went back a dir and found the pics there.

as far as I got it Dual Core for AMD means something like Hyperthreading for Intel, so Dream431ca pretty much confirmed it. But still if it isn't fully implemented i might still go with some single core cpus (those go up to 3800+ only right ?)

oh yes, a mobo and some cooling that can take that, I'd appreciate if someone actually linked me up to the deals too :O I r noob and this will be the first computer i will buy in parts and build on my own.

I'm thinking of using newegg what other stores do you guys recommend ?

About monitor - I have an HDTV I'll hook it up for "gaming days", normally I think my widescreen monitor cuts it. (might get another one for dual-monitor godness)

The case, soz but I'm going with some pretty cheap stuff that still can gimme plenty of uber cooling, I don't ming about case tuning and shit like that...

Call intel/amd, ask for a custom CPU & mobo

Call ati and ask for a custom gfx card

Buy a 100 gig flash hd

Buy 100 15 inch lcd monitors and MAKE ONE HUGE ONE!!11

100 GIG flash HD would be cool

lol Maxi ok, there's a very high budget, but there's still a budget.

Hrrmm?

-ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe or Premium Motherboard
-AMD Athlon 64 FX57 939 Processor (OC)
-4GB OCZ Gold Series DDR2 (667mhz, PC5400) Memory
-Two SLI 7800 GTX Vidya Cards
-Creative Xi-Fi Fatal1y Sound Card
-lol @ 100 Gig flash drive...hmm 1gb of flash mem. = about 70 bucks so about $7000 for that LOL
A Powerful PSU, Big ol' case, all water cooled...
19" LCD Monitor...because 21" is too big..
Maybe plasma instead of LCD, whatever.

Yup.

Edit: Actually I have no idea if that RAM will work...it's 240-pin..?
Oh well, I'm only dreaming annyway...

maybe DDR2 RAM, and Creative Fatal1ty Xi-Fi Sound Card

but that pretty much sums up the best stuff possible right there

but the PSU i mentioned earlier sould be better too.

good suggestions altho ddr2 is pretty useless on an amd board, dunno why but I know it doesnt mix

umm i thought ddr2 wasnt compatible with any current motherboards

I'd get a flash drive. That's so incredibly fast, nothings faster lol

This is what I would get.
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Socket 939
Asus SLI Socket 939 motherboard
7800GTX
7800GTX
1GB DDR PC4200
1GB DDR PC4200
Western Digital 320GB harddrive
Western Digital 74GB Raptor harddrive
500Watt+ Antec, Enermax, or Fortron power supply.

To consider...If you are GAMING and that is it then an Athlon 64 FX57 (2.8GHz single core) is going to be faster than an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.4GHz Dual Core) CPU.
Although if you have something else going in the background then that dual core CPU will maintain it's FPS while gaming when the FX57 will drop some frames. Or if you have a program that can take advantage of 2 CPUs by itself, such as video editing.

Personally, I'd go with a Dual Core CPU. I don't want it to be a penalty that I'm running norton Anti Virus or something else in the background...even if Norton is terrible. :x
But you get the point. Either way, Athlon 64's run pretty cool and don't take a lot of power yet they perform.
Also, the newer Athlon 64's such as the FX57 and dual core CPUs can take faster than PC3200 DDR without Overclocking.

SLI is the best thing out there right now for GFX. Although only a few games will take advantage of it. ATI's crossfire is coming out soon (Oct) and they will have Crossfire boards and using the new ATI cards. Every game can get some benefit from it instead of only a few like SLI. ;)

As i've said I'm waiting for next-gen ATI so I can work on some crossfire :D

Since Vista will be such a resource-hog, i suppose dual-core will be my choice. (WIDGETS!! LOTS OF WIDGETS OH YUS!!

Evil said something about 8gb ram and i love the sound of that

are you guys even reading my POSTS BIATCHES ?

i have HDTV that will do better than any monitor.

I don't need surge protection, i have insurance :O

but zomg 12000 dollars... I was thinking of some 7000, 6000 tops :O
