Girl born without a face

Read the article a few weeks back. I wasn't sure what to think really. The child will helpless and in misery for the rest of its life.

Yeah, they're going to try facial reconstruction. But I doubt she will ever look normal.

i dunno, technology will improve to years too come, she might have artificial eyes, etc, heck even a put on face , thatd be cool :D

This is 2005, not 2500.:p

I wouldn't expect that kind of technology until a dominate species over takes.:p Would be nice though. ;)

Watch the video and you get to see the little girl, I can honestly say I will be having nightmares tonight. I dunno what to think, I feel sorry for her obviasly. But I could never have a child like that. I find it discusting to even look at. I know that sounds harsh, but its true.

EDIT: she does have eyes and she can see, but she breaths through tubs and is fed through her belly button. She obviasly can't talk. Just watch the video thats on the news page.

I deeply admire the parents, they obviously love the child way beyond ordinary standards, and it is wonderful to see that.

In my opinion, we are not in positions to say if they should kill her or let her live, no one is, unless the parents themselves. Very very few, if any, parents can look at their child and decide to end his/her life, this applies as much to the most beautiful babies as to the most horrible deformations.

Well, if I was personally born like that. I would end my life, it sounds crude but I don't really want to live a life thats be full of suffering and despair. You can't really accomplish much if your in a state like that.

I share similar sentiments. I don't want to sound offensive or anything, but I would have a lot of difficulty having a child like that. Chalk that up to my maturity or compassion, I guess. I feel like an asshole when I say it, but it's how I feel nonetheless. But I honestly don't know what I'd do if I was in the kind of situation those parents are in.

from what you all say I dont want to wacht that

can you describe how is the problem

I must admit I am very shocked, of all the places to be distorted your face...
She seems to have quite a lot else wrong with her, so perhaps luckily for her before long...
I guess its OK for now, but when she grows up she basically wont have a life, no husband, no social life. People with rashes on their face must feel bad and people noticing them, but people wont just notice, they will be horrified.

Has anyone read the book Nobody True? Its about a serial killer with a simillar disability.

Ahh poor her :(

Another one of those millions of things that 'makes u feel lucky' kinda thing:(

I'm not going to read that article. It's too depressing. i mean having to be fed through her belly button? this is really saddening. I feel sorry for her deeply... but like people have said, that article would give me nightmares!

I've got to agree - in those sorts of situations it really is better to put the child to sleep than force them to suffer a lonely life of agony and humiliation.

Maybe. But I think her parents will give her enough love to balance her sadness.

Well said isn't it?

Homeschooling..

That one part of the video was funny. The dad nodded his head yes, so she shakes her head no. Anyway, it's nice to see that she's loved at all. There's bound to be people who wouldn't love a child like that, and I know for a fact, there are. But remember: It's what's on the inside that counts.

If you look at the bottom of that news page, it says that a school has raised over $3,500 in just 3 days. I, personally, think that's amazing.

good idea.. lets hide her from the world says the parents.

And what about when she has to go join society?

edit: I feel bad for the girl.. but im being realistic, people are @$$holes. Weather she is being made fun of in school or by some girl she passes on the street shes going to have a very hard life.

I live in Jacksonville and see this story on TV once and a while our city has donated alot to this family, its pretty sad.

Totally out of place dude. How would you feel if you were the parent of that child, knowing your child is probably never going to have friends, will be made fun of at school, and will never get married? Or if you were that child?

He's nine years old Zeus, relax. It was bound to happen.

Really sad story/video :( :(

I would just like to walk with her and beat the shit out of anyone that looked at her funny.

that's so sad :( about reconstructive surgury, that is VERY real, scientists have actually grown bone inside a human (they grew a lower jaw in a guys shoulder i reckon) and can do amazing things to improve her, though she might not function as well they might be able to improve the apperence of her.

She wont be made fun off, she will just get very horrified looks. Which in a way is worse. I gues no one is going to point at her and say "lollerskates thats the most abomintable thing I have seen in months and im going to have nightmares!", they will look absolutley appaled. Just imagine if your walking down the street and your raise you head to see her coming towards you, admit it you would be shocked, you may even cry out and jump back. And that I think is worse.

no offense.. actually er.. how can one put this nicely?

go away? please?

just dont say anything.

I'm too scared to watch the video. I only watched a few seconds of it.

Through her belly button, from what I saw of the video.

Omg thats so ****ing horrible....I saw this on tv once...It makes you wonder why does life have to be so horrible and why does god allow such things. :(

I apologize for that comment i made about the headcrab.. uncalled for and it wont happen again

Good to hear it :)

There was a thread about this a while ago. Its very sad, but her parents love her and we can take hope in that I think.

Oh man. I can't think what it would be like if one of my little sisters was like that. Damn.

My nephew has this. Not nearly as bad. Most cases of Treachers (aside from medical problems resulting from breathing, hearing, and esophagus problems) have the person still being normal, just with some facial differences.

It's a lot more common than people realize.

I'm appalled at all the people who mentioned they would not want to take are of her as their child if they were to have her. Just spend one damn hour with any of these loving kids and you'll change your tune. Their situation I know benefits their personality hugely. I can't believe any of you brought up 'optional death' or any of these things. Just spend a while with some of these kids. God :/

That sounded like it came from the heart , She is normal, She Breathes eats has a caring personality and loves to hug. I feel sorry that she has to have another 30 operations...

I have NEVER laughed so hard in my life when I saw her face....

Is it possible to be born with eyes that are two different colours such as green and blue, or brown and yellow?

I hate you. You won't ever do this again when in some way, someone with something like this is involved closely with you in your life.
