...that's pretty freaking stupid. As much as I dislike the "abstinence movement", I despise the restriction of self-expression far more. I mean, it's a ring, ffs.

Any comments?

Ban it.

Uniformity for all, or none.

holy **** what idiot parent would give that to their child?

Your views suck. Individualism for the win. To a point, that is.

No uniformity. As much as i hate kids with the "Nike Air Max or else you suck" :p attitude, uniforms make everything look like 1984.

That's one strict dress code.

I'm surprised it's been in debate for 2 years though. Seriously, just let them have their rings.

i c they have no probls banning rings, so why not they ban those dresses that cover up the muslims faces?? Surely thats againts the system policy. But they wont, they get called racist & crap which is sick.

Rofl.

And no Razziar, your a bit naive.
The source is the daily mail, the biggest sturrer or crap and blatent lies.
I bet the article contains "Political correctness gone mad". The article makes it out to seem like the school has banned thoose rings. But I bet like most UK schools they've just banned all rings. Thoose rings haven't been singled out, and if they have..... well.... stupid rings anyway.

Edit. I'd just like to clarify I hate uniforms and am totallay against them.

Ahh, I remember a time when girls were banned from wearing pants at my house. :cat: :smoking: :cat:

That would be like banning the wearing of the cross and banning it would be against the religion which would be crossing the line, and apparently they respect that line.

How am I naive? Because I don't like your views of uniformity for all?

Something as small as a ring should not be banned. A ring isn't an outfit. I can understand if you had LOADS of rings.

its from the daily mail...

they have a no jewelry policy, not the first school to have one

it's not the ring but rather the message it sends ..frankly I wouldnt be too surprised if it becomes popular for boys to collect those rings (given to them of course)

School uniform codes are for nazi's.

See now this is what pisses me off.

Some schools can have an Islamic/asian population of around 40%.

Now girls in this 40%, so that's now 20% are exempt from wearing school uniform, they can wear the whole hijab or whatever it's called. Why? It's their relgion/culture. So they can wear their hijabs from any shop, in any colour with any pattern, whilst the rest of us have to dress in exactly the same black jumper black pants uniform, with no choice expect for the shoes, (which must be black).

How is that fair? It's not. The school should also make a school hijab, so they can still wear their cultural clothing, but still have to wear uniform.
Or just not make anyone wear uniform.

... But - I have it all on tape. >:)

ON topic: I think schools that have uniforms can be a good environment for problem children and kids that don't fit in elsewhere.

I got good grades and discipline in Military School.

I agree with you.
You're naive, which is completely forgiveable becuase you're not from here and so know little on our press.

The daily mail is well known for its biggotted crap inside, this whole ring thing is taken way out of context and made to look like the school gone 'mad with political correctness.'

Samon locked his grandma in a cupboard for reading the Daily Mail, true story.

If whatever your religion is had a form of clothes to wear, then the school would have to let you wear it, but since it doesn't I guess you have to complain to your religious leader.

But seriously, if your religion had a dress code and the islams, or any other religion for that matter, didn't and you didn't have to follow the dress that your peers are, would you still be complaining about it?

I was merely speaking as if the article were true.

I'm atheist. But my point is that being religious, gives one more rights in choice of uniform than
someone who isn't.

If you ask me, "one-ness" comes from accepting individuality, not repressing it. Dress codes are one thing- while I dislike them, it's true that it levels out things for students of different incomes, and focuses them more on school. There's NO good reason to ban these rings, though.

Would make people from low incomes feel bad that they can't afford rings, they will just have to walk around with no pants so everyone can see they are virgins.

i read in a paper a few months back that a lad was refused into school as he was wearing a cross of jesus, which breached the school policy.

Meh.

School's stupid for cracking down on rings.

Girls are stupid for pledging abstinence.

I don't necessarily agree with the concept of uniforms for kids, but once that policy is in place then I believe even more strongly that you don't make exceptions. The whole muslim hijab vs. christian cross thing is a matter of discretion. There are schools in Britain that have banned the full scarf deal (the one that conceals the face) because it so obviously creates a distinction between those who wear it and those who don't. A crucifix worn and tucked underneath the shirt is a different matter, since you don't notice it. BUT, I went to a catholic school and even there you could be damn sure that if anyone had worn a big whopping Mr. T style dangler-crucifix, that would not have been tolerated either. I don't think there is any inequality there. Teachers tend to be c*nts to children of all types regardless of race and creed.

Banning rings seems to be going too far, but at the same time I reckon it's probably the result of a general no-jewellery policy rather than zomg persecution of teh Xians. Not to mention that any girls wearing such a ring may as well be wearing a 'TRY YOUR LUCK' sign on their back.

I think schools should have uniforms, but banning rings? WTF

A chastity belt would send a much clearer message.

Going around pretending that you're captain planet's rangers to promote abstainance, lol.

They ****ing think society is obliged to build them a monument because they choose not to be the sluts they reallly are. Nonsense.

How many fat, ugly, bald guys will never get laid in ther lives? They are the ones who deserve monuments for their martyrdom, not those ****s.

how many fat bald guys get laid on a regular basis? with over 60% of americans being considered overweight I'm willing to bet that number is quite high. you're generalising; just because you cant get laid if your life depended on it doesnt mean that people who dont fit a certain mold cant get laid either. I suspect your inability to get laid stems from your personality rather than your looks

I had a girl make fun of my looks just the other day. She told her girlfriend that I was ugly, when she knew I was in front of them listening. What do you make of that then?

Do you think she says she doesn't like my looks because in reality she doesn't like my personality but doesn't have the mental capacity to make the distinction?

I was about to say 'feckorf' but actually, you're right to an extent - if they're going to ban jewellery full stop then fair enough, but they should also ban the Muslim bracelets or whatever as well. If they're going to be that f*cking prissy about some stupid rings then they should should also be f*cking prissy about some stupid bracelets.

I hate uniforms. They suck. Thank god I'm at college, where nobody cares!

As for some of those girls, their absistence is quite a tragedy. One-track mind? Me? Of cock not.
