Yay?

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/global-agenda-devs-making-new-tribes-shootermmo/2669/

Hi-Rez Studios, the company that brought you Global Agenda, now owns the rights to the Tribes franchise and its putting the revered franchise to use as we speak. As Kotaku reported today, Hi-Rez is currently developing a brand new Tribes game, which will be the first game in the franchise since the story-focused Tribes: Vengeance in 2004.

But this latest and as yet unnamed Tribes title won’t just be a multiplayer-focused shooter like the previous Tribes entries (except for Vengeance). On the contrary, in its continuing effort to make the word "Shooter/MMO" an actual genre distinction instead of just weird marketing terminology (there's no concept for it on the site, so as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist) the new Tribes game will be just that: a persistent, online multiplayer game where up to 100 players can battle at once with vehicles, classic weapons, and the series-standard jet packs. Developed on a “heavily modified” Unreal Engine 3, Hi-Rez hopes start alpha testing the game early next year.

Very nay.
Didn't like Global Agenda at all and the idea of a Tribes MMO is just... no.

Tribes 3 or bust.

Isn't some of the original Tribes devs making a shooter-MMO called "FireFall" or something like that?

I recall threads about it on here, more excited about that, despite it having microtransactions.

Firefall looks pretty underwhelming, though, and Global Agenda was decent. It could go either way.

Uber fail!

Everyone needs to stop making a WoW beater, MMO's cost a retarded amount of money to make and a massive massive dev team and the chances of success is very slim. Chances are they will go bust.

So, as much as I liked Tribes 2 back in the day, procuring the license has nothing to do with the awesomeness of large, open plan battles in a sci-fi setting (because, obviously, you can do that regardless of the license). Honestly, who gives a shit about the design and backstory for the franchise? It was just there.

They're called Global Agenda? That's so NWO.

You don't need to beat WoW to make it into the MMO market, and this doesn't seem to be mimicking WoW in the slightest, so um.

Or is WoW just pig latin for MMO now? :p

Ugh. Used to play Global Agenda- yeah, it's fun, and the game was going in a good direction but the president of Hi-Rez believes content>quality and they ****ed it up. Not worth buying at the moment.

I'm forecasting light showers of meh and 20% probability of yawn-storms.
