GMan - pointless

Ok, I have finished HL2, and I must say that GMans intergration into the game and story is completely useless, he does nothing for the story

he makes no tangiable sense other than to seem cool
his appearences in game are useless they do not appear for bolster the storyline its as if he is only there as a gimick

GMan was a waste of time?

in hl1 he was the strange person behind the wall letting you into a building or saving your life with no care to wait for a thank you or give an explanation, where has this element gone in hl2?

GMan sucks

note, word hasnt been installed because I had to format to play hl2, so dont complain about spelling, I dont care
 
If you were to actually listen to him at the end of the game, you would understand his importance. You seem like the person that just flys through a game and skips all the cutscenes...

I am not the kind of person to skip cut scenes, the ending was unacceptable to the development to hl3 it leaves it open to anything and doesnt create a strong storyline
 
Yes it did, it closed to an extent the story, hl2's ending was "to short" in a sense that after I finished it, I was left feeling..... but how does it end? that isnt worth playing for

I think you should pay more attention. I dont feel like posting a lengthy reply right now, but I disagree with you. G-man is the puppeteer that moves the story forward, you should listen and give it some thinking and I am sure you can understand....
 
The only occasion the gman ever saved your life, was when he pushed a button in Opposing Force, which in my mind (due to opposing forces development) doesnt count.

The gman is meant to mean nothing, he is the god figure who controls u like an insignificant little chess piece, and the only relevance you are meant to have is to kill everything that can be killed in ur path, if you dont get the premise, thats your personal problem, bye now.

I agree. The G-man is very enigmatic. He just keeps you wondering enough to play HL3 when it comes out.

That's how I felt with HL1.
 
i dont know what that poster is talking about, the Gman seems to know more then any one in the half-life world, he is kind of like a secret agent or something for the govt
 
I dunno if it was the sound studder or what but with the way it ended and his rythm of speach I think the Gman is a robot of somekind. Maybe he suffers from some neuro damage? It's just everyones elses speach flows well but his, as if there are intentional breaks in what he says, dramatic effect maybe? Hope we don't have to wait another six years to find out.
 
I am not saying that he is not appart of the story etc

but his appereances in game aside from the start and end are tottally useless

its just a gimick which fails to give an image of a mysterious man...

Yeah, I think the point was he was a guy working behind the scenes.
It felt like he was either on your tail or in the area for a reason. Maybe watching your progress... I don't think his presense was misplaced at all,
maybe missunderstood... I just can't get over that wierd pause in his
speach.
 
Um he never helped me in HL1, only time he helps anyone is during OPFOR, where he saves you and then strands you.
 
In HL1 G-Man was more of an observer, testing your skill and survival instincts and the like.

I have to agree with rammstein in that the G-Man doesn't really make much of a character as he did in the first one.

For most people who play HL2 they won't even notice the G-Man's appearance's throughout the game.

I have to say that while HL2 is all about discovering the story for yourself far far too many questions were left unanswered. At the end I was left more with the feeling "that's it?"

At the end of HL1 we knew that the Xen invasion had been stopped and the ordeal was over...for now.

End of HL2 I was left asking the questions, what happened to the Combine and did the resistance succeed or fail?

If anything the ending of HL2 was at the peak of a huge climax that never occurred. it felt like it was about to go that one step further and tell us what we have been fighting and what we have been trying to save. HL2 was left far too open for a sequel.
 
:dozey: Don't be mad that Valve didn't make G-man something to pose a 'walkthrough' through the game. Half Life 2, you're to find as much information by yourself, it probably wouldn't be much... but at the end G-man says all this shit as if he assumed you knew what was going on, but you don't, this is why his little speeches are confizzling.

So rather than leaving us confused until HL3 maybe they should actually gives us some informative information.

Like I said, it's cool finding out stuff on your own (and let's face it, you don't find out much on your own) but you'd think that Gordon's friends would at least give them a condensed version of the past 14 or so years.
