Just symbolic?

The Pope is essentially the head of Christendom on Earth. He makes decisions and dictates the whole direction of the Catholic Church.

Pope John Paul II in particular has had dramatic impacts on religion and world events on the planet during the past 25 years.

His job is much more than merely "symbolic."

Its hard to say who the better standup comic is - as between Mitch Hedberg and the Pontiff. They cover similar material, sex, contraception, gays, politics. I think the Pope's more of a straight man though. But if either or both are dead, the world of comedy will be much the poorer.

The Vatican website was hacked once - and had a graphic of the pope on the toilet saying 'Repent Sinners.' for a short time....
