Anyone here listen to them? I was playing HL2 to their music the other day and it was cool.

I love them. The song in 28 Days Later where he's wandering around at the very beginning is actually a song called East Hastings by them. They're a Montreal band, it's kinda odd that they're in a small British movie. But they're awesome.

I know :-). I wasn't asking about them because I didn't know anything about them. I actually went and saw them a few years ago in concert. It was great.

Haha sorry, didn't mean to imply you were, I just mentioned that for anyone who doesn't know who they are but likes that movie (which everyone should... :) )
A couple of my friend's saw them a couple years ago too, went on schrooms, said it was the craziest experience ever

/me tried to "aquire" some of their music because it matched my taste in bands but never got round to it

What is their genre?

Heard some of their stuff (a song or two) on radio 3 a coupla weeks ago. I may invest in an album or two sometime. Rule of thumb - anything musical from Montreal is good.

any songs in particular that are really good?

If you can find the album "Lift Your Skinny Fists...", then I would recommend the first track on the second disc...after the guy is done talking about Coney Island.

Well, I personally hate putting things in genres. I honestly don't know what I would call this band though, if I had to. I can break them down for you though:

There are 9 of them (that play instruments). 3 guitarists, 2 bassists, 2 percussionists, a cellist, and a violinist. It makes for a very packed stage.

As far as what "kind" of music they play...if I had to call it a broad genre, I would call it rock music. The songs are all instrumental though, incredibly moody (ranging from dark to beautiful to insane) and are often 15+ minutes long with almost an "orchestrated" feel to them.

Often they will have 20+ minute tracks on a CD that will consist of 2 or more sperate "movements" or "songs".

If you have an appreciation for mood, melody, and intensity, and have a long attention span, I'd recommend perhaps starting out buying their CD "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven".
