OK, I'm not on these forums as much as some, but I do still pop in quite regularly to see what's going on.

And in the past few months I can 'sense' things are changing. I detect a strong essence of the steampowered.com forums creeping into the atmosphere - which is not a good sign.

Obviously with a game as important as HL2 discussions are going to get heated, but these forums used to be much better, more fun, more relaxed perhaps.

Something needs to be done.

No steampowered forums were always the cess pit of communitys.

It has only just started improving.

It's just that HL2 is so close, but at the same time so far away..
And Valve and Vivendi are not clearing things up.

After my baffling experience at another forum, I realized that halflife2.net is probably as good as it will ever get, anywhere. Even Steampowered is high quality compared to some trollboards.

Well it's getting there, the difference is that most people here are fanboys that agree with each other, doesn't mean the overall level is much better.

These boards have been relatively good. The mods are generally really on top of keeping the complete morons/trolls out and locking down pointless threads. I haven't been in an interesting forum yet where people didn't disagree and argue. A lovey lovey forum would be pointless and like some sort of fanboy cult.

That said, Valve, Vivendi, AND the community should all be targets of criticism, so your observations are appreciated.

Good forums are often good because they have a community of regular posters who help out and are generally nice to other members.

The problem is that there are sooo many new members its hard to keep up with everything. In my opinion...

But don't worry, as long as I am here I aint gona let it get to Steampowered levels... god forbid any lower...... :O

Personally the reason I hang around here is because of the maturity level. It's nice to listen in on an intelligent debate rather than watch a flaming war.

Just my 2 cents.

i like these forums, the stam forums (from my memory) dont have a HL2 board, plus there is a great speed with which news is reported on this site :)

Steam forums are starting to improve but ya they are still pretty terrible compared to most HL2 fan sites. Believe me though, HL2.net has been far worse before and we recovered from it. It got to the point where basically any member with more than 200 posts fled the general discussion board and sought refuge in the off-topic section. It was a horrible time.

I use to post on the steamforums all the time. I havnt posted more then like 4 post in a week there. I like this forum a lot more.

I think we're all starting to go slightly insane right now...but it should pass once we get a gold announcement or a release date

Im worried. I was ready to hear good news when i heard 2 bad things. Thats the only thing that frustrats me. You know. :/

There will always be flames on any forums, this one lucky has very few and the mods are quick to ban any repeat offender. Remeber if you have a problem with someones post report it.

Funny, that's exactly what I have been doing the past week or so. :)

I used to post on the Steampowered forums until I got sick of every piss-ant that couldn't tell his head from his ass calling me a "motherf*cker" or a "n00b".

In fact, I checked back there recently and found that 18 private messages of bile and hatred had accumulated in my inbox. Nice chaps, I must say.
