The Gold Rush update is now available for download (free), The Gold Rush Update introduces the new Gold Rush map and Payload gameplay style, the first set of unlockable weapons, and a new set of achievements for the Medic.

Gold Rush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload. The level is split into three separate areas with intermediate capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (Blu) and defense (Red) similar to Dustbowl. The goal for the Blu team is to push the bomb payload through the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of Red's major bases. Blu pushes the cart through the level by standing near it, and the cart will move faster the more people are standing near it. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again.

In other news, a worldwide Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend will begin Friday at noon PDT,and will include access to the new content released today in the TF2. All of the files needed to join the Free Weekend are available for pre-loading now.

edit - just had a funny thought about the 'Sawbones' achievement: this does not necessarily guarantee that they'll die. Go for a heavy with a medic on them, and start sawing away. If you try this on, say, a scout or spy, you probably won't even get to five though. (Does it have to be on the same person?)

Aww... I'd really love to play the new TF2 stuff, but I've been playing GTA IV all day :hmph:
 
God ****ing dammit, you can't go into a server without the entire team being Heavies and Medics. Jesus shitting in a ****ing brick bucket. Should stop once everyone is done whoring though so yeah.
 
Grinding is fun, I don't know what everyone's problem is.
 
Goldrush is awesome, I like being Heavy again. Medic spam can be annoying when you are defending. Haven't seen any of the new weapons yet.

Assuming your talking about the 10 hits in a row? Wait for a server that is melee-only.
 
Yeah, I wonder how many have used that one.
I got 6 or 7 achievements normal gameplay, then did some grinding for the
first unlock. Things are going to be weird for a while...
 
yes so far.... future upgradable weapons are being worked on for the other classes...
 
****ing console command, hope there's a hotfix for that soon :/

Other than that, there doesn't seem to be too much medic whoring, which is good.

Goldrush is heaven for a sniper :)
 
LOL at console command, kind of defeats the purpose of EARNING ACHIEVEMENTS, but oh well... I unlocked a few, then when I saw that I was like *looks at name* :LOL: new achievements = wtfpwned

In any case I used achievement_unlock TF_MEDIC_ACHIEVE_PROGRESSX (x=1, 2 or 3) to get the unlocks, but I still can complete all the other achievements normally. Still when the server I was on found out about the achievement_unlock_all command at least 8 people unlocked everything right away.
 
Well of course its a loophole lol, the proper way to earn achievements is by doing them, not knowing how to press ~ and type a command. :dozey:

Kind of defeats the purpose of them being there in the first place when you can 1 button press to earn them all, seems like if they wanted that they would have just released the weapons to every one with no achievements at all a long time ago.

But, who knows.

Yeah I guess your right but it just seems a bit odd imo, if they could have prevented you from unlocking the weapons (& I hear you can unlock the achievements too) in this way, why didn't they? If its unavoidable from a coding perspective, well thats fair enough.
To the people who think its a bad to have locked weapons initially, well thats fair enough too I suppose. But for the achievements to be made unlockable in this way is a bit...:|

+ I don't know how hard it is to unlock the weapons without using the console, but it might effect imminent clan games

If they wanted an easy way for people to unlock the new things there would only be the command that unlocks the milestones and not also a command that unlocks all achievements.

TBH, I'm suprised there hasn't been a fix already I would have though that it would be easy. Makes me wonder if everyone at Valve went home... what a suprise they are in store for tommorow ;)

This is too big for bans, seriously they'd lose like 50% of their active player base. Plus the fact that it's a console command not a hack, an exploit at best (people weren't banned for building under the ground of gravelpit, QQing for snipers, storing uber for Medics, etc). There are also people like Ennui who think this something Valve wanted, or other people who just wanted to try the new weaons and did what others told them to do to get them. Combined with the mostly neutral or positive attitude the commands are getting...

I'm a long way from getting all of these achievements. They should just give us all the weapons now considering that so many people have cheated to get them. The achievements would still be there for people to complete them.
 
Going to be funny when Valve reset peoples achievements that used that command.
 
What's the point in doing the achievements when there's no reward... Not even a reward of showing off stat wise because someone else can complete them with a console command. I thought the whole point of the achievements for each class was to reward people good at those specific classes, not give everyone full access.

It's not an epic fail, who could have possibly got all the achievements in one day... Just reset Medic Achievements for people who have them all. And if someone did manage to get them all in one day, well, they can do it in two.

The best thing would be to reset everyone back to right before they used the command, I know some people didn't even think it would work, but thats probably not possible.

Would be funny if Valve had a program to track everyones progress across TF2, came in the next morning and saw half of their user base completed the achievements lol.

They'd be like "Wtf when did everyone get so good at medic!? Quick we better make it 100 million heal points instead and you must kill uhhh 1000 scouts with bonesaw while there ubered without missing... on a tuesday... between the hours of 1am to 2am while wearing a red cap!!" :x

It would also be really strange if Valve wanted this, maybe, but like Trevelyan said if that was the case, why waste time doing this:

Since when have players needed a reward to attempt achievements? Many should arise in just average gameplay - it's when you have a lot of people trying to do obscure or non-teamplay achievements that things go bad.

This is true. I'm a promoter of the unlock weapons only, not all achievements command.

Not that it matters, it's morning in Valve land and Robin's already working on the problem. But I can honestly say, given that I've seen both kinds of gameplay - the "I need those achievements to try out the new weapons" early compared to the "lets try these guns out and then go back to our normal classes", which one is more fun. In short Valve should correct people's achievements list and then just give everyone the new weapons.
 
Goldrush = the hardest map ever, no way the blue team can win this.
 
The very last stage is very hard, Dustbowl is won about 63% of the time by Red. I'd estimate Goldrush as around 70%, maybe higher - but that is most likely due to map inexperiance, things will get better. In the meantime it makes the cinematic Blu victory ever more the sweeter :)
