Golden Eye: Source beta released.

Public alpha has been out since last Christmas. The Beta was supposed to be released this christmas but it was a couple days late due to a couple last minute bugs.

Sooo... is it any good?

I've played the alpha but didn't really fall for it.
 
No idea yet. Looks like they've made a decent amount of improvements/additions. Its over a 200mb download though and I'm not halfway through it yet. Probably won't try it out myself till tonight.

It's all there but it has 2 major problems, hit detection and lag. Even with a 40-60 ping you bounce about all over. The guns hit with blood but do no damage most of the time.
 
what do you do after you download whats needed for Golden Eye: Source? i dont know how to set up a mod to play it =(
 
Just run the exe if you downloaded that or if you downloaded the zip unzip it into your \Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\ directory. Once you do that restart steam and it should show up in the list.
 
this is a huge update and the game pwns 10X more now...
 
i really see this mod going places......playing with just a couple buddies is ****ing AWESOME.
 
This mod has enormous potential, there is some damage problems with some of the weapons & lag issue's but when that is fixed its going to awesome.

AK-74 could use some more damage & some time's it doesn't zoom, the Sniper rifle takes too many shots to kill, etc.
 
yeah but all that just reflects on the title of BETA. when we see the final version, i wouldnt be surprised if it got as big as cs.

Unfortunately this is true. Other than that this is a very high quality mod. Thanks to the makers if they are present here. I can see this becoming huge if these bugs are squashed and we get some new content over the next few months, I'll keep on playing that's for sure. Well done.
 
This mod has been the most fun I've ever had with any mod. Including GMod.
 
AWESOME! If you have a friend or 2. Do a 1 on 1 or 1v1v1 on Cradle, it is the most fun map ever.

This is probably my favorite MP mod, with ES pretty close too. I like Team Elimination for some amount of teamwork, since if you're alone, you're pretty vulnerable. I like how the ammo/weps don't spawn right away (at least on servers I play it on), it makes the first 10-15 secs pretty intense while you hold out with whatever gun you got. Prox mines are great on this mode also, just plant them strategically and you can easily cover your back. Prox mines are perfect right now for me. If you're attentive, you usually won't get blown up by them, and if you're clever, you're nearly guaranteed kills with them.

I love LTK for the mindless DM however. But the spawning system is annoying in that gamemode, especially when it gives you ridiculously easy spots like the little holes w/ ammo on Cradle again and again. I play this mainly on a PP7 only server, because the other ones get too laggy. Anyway, it becomes a game of simply reflexes, which for me is great after a long day. Of course, thats helped by me kicking arse at it :D

The only mode I really dislike is all-weapons, non-ltk deathmatch... That just feels stupid imo. Due to the lag and hit detection issues, among other bugs, it is too frustrating for me to be very fun. That and the paintball option (Yes I know it was in 64). Paintball mods and such in videogames just boggles my mind. The POINT of paintball is that it's "real" without being very dangerous. So imo playing it in a videogame is... redundant/pointless.


PS: going slappers-only on an LTK server is just plain HXC D:
 
yea they fix the lag thing and its ready to go. throw in some more maps/weapons and this thing is a goldmine masterpiece. on a lan this game is ****ing rediculous. it has so much potential.

oh yeah, and perfect dark source has a LOT to live up to now. =p
 
This really is an impressive mod. The net coding is a bit buggy at the moment though
