*Gets out the lawyerstick*

I'm pretty sure you're violating a number of IP laws. Without a page on your website with correspondance with whomever currently owns the copyright, to state that you did contact them and they have given the thumbs up, I can see you getting shut down.

Lawyer speaks the truth, especially because Microsoft now owns the rights to Goldeneye. Without permission, you will be shut down for sure.

MS owns the rights??

and regardless,, cmon it wasnt the best game,, it was the best game at the time

yea, MS owns the rights because MS owns Rare, who made Goldeneye

I don't think they'll be shut down though, they've been going for a while, and i'm guessing if they haven't been shut down yet, that they won't

The site is really slow for me when everywhere else is normal. Cant even preview music samples. They have been up for a while and always near the top of ModDB so I believe they are far enough along. However thats all the worse to have it shut down now that so much is done.

There was a Goldeneye mod for HL1 that was shutdown. I've got the install file somewhere methinks.

LOL maybe there waiting for them to finish just to annoy lol that would be so mean :p 0_o

It wouldn't suprise me. Actually, thats a point, would MS have the right to claim the finished mod as their property and market it as a retail product even though they didn't make it? I presume not, but I'm not sure, and I could imagine ms doing this if they could.

Saying that, unless they have future plans for the goldeneye license, I can't see any real reason to stop them making the mod. They arn't selling the N64 game anymore anyway.

you presume correctly they wouldn't be able to take it, but if they really wanted they could buy it. That is if it were up for sale.

lol i hope that doesn't happen, that would be mean too, they spend all this time for nothing v_v

i would only sell a mod only if they let me still work on it.

They are. We lawyers know exactly when to hit to make it hurt the most.

Best time to do it, surely.

If you've just spend the best part of a couple of months working hard on getting your first release of a MOD out, and the company that owns the game you based it turns around and closes you down, are you going to waste your time trying to make another MOD based around game X, Y, or Z again?

The man has a point. It's simultaneously the most effective and funniest time to shut down a mod.
