I've had intel for many many years, and a few nvidia cards. I've moved to AMD and I don't think I will move back. The gaming performance vs price is outstanding for AMD. ATI v nVIDIA well each have good points, I've never had a problem with a nVidia card but for some reason I still prefer ATI. I guess I've never really had a good high end nVidia card for a while. I guess I'm purchasing the underdogs ATI and AMD which will hopefully provide competition if anything

I've seen benchmarks with Geforce 6800 cards outperforming ATI cards..in Half Life 2. If you want I can search for them.
The new series of nVidia cards, 6 series are very good. However Valve heavily optimised for the FX series which were pretty poor.

All I know is that my 3.2 ghz pentium and my Nvidia 6800 Ultra run Half Life 2 as good as if not better than any ATI/AMD computer.

Not quite true.

Your gfx card is definately up to the job - but your cpu will cause frames to drop in heavy fights. In comparison to a A64 running at a decent speed the difference would be quite large.

Oops. AMD and Nvidia here

I made a mistake and clicked Evil Inside instead...

The FX series was an atrocity.

right now I think AMD is better than any Intel out there because of the AMD64 which MANY gamers use, including myself. I LOOOOOOVE my new PC I built. AMD64 3000+, 1.5GB PC3200, Nvidia FX5600(Gonna get a 9800 Pro). But until Intel comes out with their next gen processors...AMD is in the lead.

Currently on AMD (AMD 64 3500+) and ATi (9800pro 128mb). Wouldn't mind upgrading my gfx card to a 6800GT.

I stick with Intel for when I do things OTHER than gaming, and ATI, because, well, that's what HL2 recommended

Intel and nVidia here too. AWSOME setup imo. I will admit that AMD has an edge on games, but for other advanced programs (CGI, video editing, sound editing, modding tools, etc.) intel is the way to go.

Its either great speeds in all areas (intel) or awsome speed in one area (AMD).

You'll find that AMD (the 64 bit chips) fare better in the majority of tasks these days, with Intel performing very slightly better in just a few.

Is that so? Perhaps then, I need to look at an AMD 64 chip :). However, what I posted was what everyone tells me of the two brands so I take it as common knowledge. Guess I'm wrong.
