The Half Life 2 Prima Strategy guide is shipping in four days and I was just wondering if you were gonna get it?

No. I want to play through the game myself, I don't need no strategy guide!

Damn you, I thought it was referring to whether we plan on purchasing a physical copy of the game opposed to downloading it on Steam. Guess I need to read your post as well...harumph!

Probably not, I wanna figure it all out by myself...

Maybe..

i never buy strategy guides

:dork:

You need to make the poll clearer, I clicked yes thinkin' it was about buying half life 2...

Why get a strategy guide? It ruins it, unless you're playing a squaresoft game inetntionally created to torture the player until they succumb to looking at a strategy guide or faq.

I might get it just to look at pictures to drool and Spit I don't get what you just said.

Reading is a wonderful skill to have, people.

So much so that next week, i'm going to Reading uni. ;)

The guid will help you develop skills (true say), but I prefer play HL2 first and maybe buy the guid later in the year.

Who wouldnt buy HL2? Well, other than my girl friend anyway...

For me 1/2 the fun is just diving into the game, totally lost and trippin on everything. I dont want to see a map of the level...or be walked thru the objectives one by one. Kinda ruins the "surprise factor" if ya ask me. Imho only of course.
Speaking of maps...I just had a cool flashback to when my crappy old rig was first tryin to render HL1 and eventually figuring out that the fuzzy blue blob on the wall was a representation of the level/floor you were on.

Well buying the guide before the game ships will ruin the entire story of it, so I will not be buying it but I will read about it.

It seems to me that the entire point of HL2 is to develop your own strategies using the physics and the environment.

I didn't get one for any of the other HL games, so I won't get this one either.

i'm not gonna get it. With the new physics system and realistic envioronment, i'm guessing theres gonna be fewer tricks to exploit than other games, like gauss-jumping, or strafing to run faster. This'll make it easier to develop your own strategy without resorting to tricks. All the strat guide can do is ruin the plot.

Yeah but I just want to get it to drool at the pictures before the game.

i wonder if it will go out in 4 days, that would be wierd, u can bet leaked stuff from it would appear.

Wait a minute... if the strategy guide is coming out this soon, wouldn't they need a playable version to base it on? The implication here is that the game is done, right?

BTW, I really hope anyone who gets it is not going to post any spoilers in these forums without ten-foot high spoiler warnings. Valve has been really secretive for ages about the game and now the guides out i bet it will be all over the net in minutes. Oh well, the suspense was nice while it lasted.

Yes, I know there are lots of people that would never dream of doing such a thing when they get the guide, so I don't mean any of you, but all it takes is for one moron to stick it on the net for the whole valve cover-up to be totally blown away.

I have never bought a guide for any game that I own, I don't plan on one now.

Strategy guides are cool for filling in back story (if they are well written) and for giving info on hp's etc. But I hate it when games have stupid "puzzles" in them that almost require a guide or FAQ to finish. Ugh! I would much rather finish a game normally, and THEN read a guide for backstory.

Oh dear. I guess I will have to abandon this forum in 4 days.

Anyone who wants to remain super spoiler free should also leave IMO.

Not reading HL2 Spoiler threads will not be enough. No way. HL2 is such a big game and so many people are looking forward to it that the trolls will be tripping over eachother to post LARGE spoilers in thread titles.

Imagine it. You wake up one morning and decide to check these boards (or any HL boards infact). You are adamant that you want to remain spoiler-free till the game comes out.

The forums load and the first thread you see has a title like :

City 17 is in another dimention. Dr Kleiner decieves you. Alex Dies at the end

And before you've even realised what your reading, HL2 is SPOILT.

I'm packing my bags in 3 days. Just to make sure.

Yeah, I'm outta here in 3 days, too. I feel bad for the mods who have to stick around these forums and read that stuff before they get a chance to delete it. :(

if its shipping in 4 days, why isnt anything about it up on their site?

There's various ways that things can be done too, the guide will probably only show 1 or 2 of those ways, remember, everything is dynamic so you decide how the scenes are acted out, not the game.

If I want a walkthrough I'll look online. I don't need to spend any extra money on a book for that. Valve is asking enough already.

no. no spoils. and even if i was, id go to gamefaqs . com

Once I hear that the guide's out, I too will be out of here.

Doh as with some of the others in this thread I voted yes before noticing that it was for people buying the stratagy guide.
