Not sure whether you guys are aware of this site:-

http://www.gog.com/en/intro

It's by CD Projekt the guys behind the most excellent Witcher game, and it's a good old (PC) games Digital download emporium.

It's presently in Beta atm, but keys are available on sign up. It's DRM free and account based so you can download the games again without cost, and the games are guaranteed to run XP & Vista plus there are PDF manuals, MP3 soundtracks and other bumpth as well. I'm presently enjoying the delights of playing Fallout on my 64 Bit Vista Behemoth and greatly enjoying not having to jump through hoops to get it to run, and all for the princely sum of $5.99.

Worth bookmarking imo if you like the old classics. :D

Hm, awesome games they'll be having for download.

Is that... Operation Flashpoint, Sacrifice, and GIANTS CITIZEN ****ING KABUTO I SEE?!?!?!? :O!

Oh..... it's not free? D:

Signed up anyways, I've been dying to get Operation Flashpoint GOTY for awhile, got ripped off with a cd keyless used copy I got for $5 a few years back. :|

Damn it only taking Visa and MasterCard at the moment! PayPal me bitches :D

Being in the beta I can say that pretty much all the games are $5.99, with only one being $9.99. Annoying about the mastercard/Visa only thing (I'd of like Maestro as well), but I'm sure Paypal will happen at some point.

I've been trying to get a beta entry but nothing yet. :(

For a moment I actually thought they would be free. Silly me.

Actually, I had signed up before this. What changed today?

They started sending out the public invites, the earlier Beta was all Press people.

For a moment I actually thought they would be free. Silly me.

Given how little they cost, they might as well be.

Anxiously awaiting to be accepted. :D
Now, is this a Steam like system or do you download and install the games as you would if you had them on CD/DVD?

Is this really legal? Have they gotten permission to sell FreeSpace 2?

I mean isn't the source for FreeSpace 2 free these days?

According to the site, you pay for it and download it, and you own it DRM-free.
So you can burn it to a CD, DVD, or just keep it on your system.
And they're touting the fact that since it's DRM free you don't need to connect to the internet every time you want to play, like Steam does.

I'm pretty sure it's legal - although I can't find a legal page on their site, it's been discussed on popular podcasts like GFW Radio - if it were illegal I think they would've been busted by now.

That's quite awesome.

Can't wait to see what they actually have for sale other than that small selection in the banner.

Ah I heard of this on the PC Gamer podcast sounds interesting :)

The source code being free just means the game engine is free. The game content is not. The first episode of Doom is still the only one you can legally get for free (it being the free demo). You're welcome to download the engine and play total conversions and custom maps only using content from the first chapter all you like.

Am I supposed to get a confirmation email or anything?

Because, I punch in my email... hit apply, and it instantly says that "Thanks" message and I don't get an email or anything. :(

Apparently they let people in in waves, and I'm told there is one wave per day. I have been waiting since monday, and am now in. It looks really pro for being first beta. I bought descent3+expantion for USD5.99 which allows me another game (from interplay catalogue) for free. So far the impression is really awesome.

Still haven't got a single email from them. :(
Anyone who just signed up get anything?

Anyone got a list of games they currently have?

Thanks, Ryan.

Not a bad list, I've signed up for it. Sounds like a great service too. Valve should make a deal with these guys to bring them to steam too :D

No problem. The list is from last week, so I think there were a couple editions since then. Nothing major, though.

Really good stuff. The game stores around here very rarely sell older PC games. I was trying to pick up Colin McRae 2005 and the game store said, "sorry, don't carry that one anymore". I had it on Xbox but I wanted it for PC. Fantastic game.

Looking forward to picking up some of these games. Some of them weren't compatible with XP and some weren't sold in the US, and some are just too old to find, so this is just pure sweet.

Looking at the list, it would be cool if they had 50 times that many... Hopefully this picks up fast.

Agreed. I'm definitely buying more games from them simply because of the peace of mind of knowing that the games will happily run on Vista 64, so the more back catalog they acquire the happier I'll be. :D

This sounds like it will be awesome. I'll definitely keep an eye on it, and sign up once their games list gets bigger.

Just got accepted. :D
Nothing really catches my interest just yet... didn't realize OFP wasn't released yet. D:

From GOG.com:

"However, if you think about installing your game on a friend's PC or sharing it with others then please don't do it, okay?"

Best copy protection ever :)

Hmm...I've got oldgames*** :-P
really, there're dozens of sites with old games and some of them are not trying to make you pay for these old hotnesses.

The titles on GOG.com don't seem abandonware to me, so distributing them for free should be prohibited.
But, yes, there are a lot of abandonware titles on the internet for free. True gems.

Also, I believe the GOG.com staff has ported the games to work on Windows XP and Vista.
I bought Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, which I believe didn't work under Windows originally.

Both Fallout 1 and 2 work fine in WinXP for me, original versions..

Hmm, that's funny. My friend said he had one of the original Fallout 2 CDs and it didn't work for him. Maybe there was a problem with his computer.

Some people get problems with Fallout 2 due to their graphic drivers settings, there's a bug related to refresh rates that leads to the screen being covered in black and moving the mouse around clears the areas around the mouse.

I had to set my original Fallout 1 executable on "Windows 95 compatibility mode", if I correctly remember.

You have to jump through hoops to get either working with Vista (esp the 64 bit version) so for $5.99 each they are a bargain given the GOG versions work perfectly (and no hoop jumping required).
