Here's my specs:

P4 2.4Ghz
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB 8x AGP
512MB DDR (PC2700)

Before the update I had nice bump mapped walls, bullet holes that looked realistic and an in-game GUI that allowed me to change the gamma.

Now I have flat, boring gfx and some cruddy bullet holes that resemble CS 1.6 and a pea shooter hole and I can't change the gamma as the Brightness Adjustment form doesn't work :frown:

Any tips are welcome to restore my CS:S to what it was before the update

C'Mon VALVe lets get rid of them bugs instead of creating more! :rolling:

How did you get bump mapping on your geforce 4 4200 ti?

i have the exact same card yet never had bumpmapping...

Wait.. I have the same EXACT specs as you.. wtf?

I definately had bump mapping and reflective water, and glossy tiles!

I have included the only screenshot I can find of CS:S before the update and another screenshot of the same position, after the update:

WHAT ARE THESE THREADS.

They took out skywalking and made better hitboxes. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?! STOP COMPLAINING.

I lub the new update, just need to fix the bugs.

[\QUOTE]

if you knew anything about counter strike you would know how to change the gamma and brightness without having to use the options menu... get smart before talking

Twas a damn fine update:)

if you're having trouble after the update then report it with the ingame bug report tool- that way valve know about it and can fix it.

However if it's just a gfx effect disabled (and not a glitch as such) then for gods sake just alter it back with the console...

Every update that fixes bugs is good. Even if it creates new ones, those will be fixed too. It's just a matter of time. Do you really think they'd release the game with these graphic errors?

Relax, these problems will be fixed in time

You have some problems with your comp then it seems. I have almost your exact same system except I have a Ti4400 and the new update is great. I can still see bumpmapping just fine. The bullet holes look much better now too.

i has the stress testing working and reflections on the tiles, but now stress test don't work, and tiles have no relfection

got geforce 4 ti4200 8x

As I happen to think that not everyone on these forums knows or should know EVERY single command, tip/trick and answer to all questions (not naming names!), I am going to help... which some of you should start doing as well... instead of some cocky remarks!

Anyway, Kylebn, I had a look in the file dxsupport.cfg which is in the "steam\SteamApps\<your e-mail>\counter-strike source beta\bin" folder and searched for "4200" which I found the entry:

"NVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X"

I noticed that specular and bump mapping were set to 0 as so:

"ConVar.mat_specular" "0"
"ConVar.mat_bumpmap" "0"

I simply changed them to 1 and both specular and bump mapping worked.

The quickest way to do this of course is to leave the dxsupport.cfg file alone and create an "Autoexec.cfg" file and enter:

mat_specular 1
mat_bumpmap 1

I also have:

cl_ragdoll_collide 1
mat_monitorgamma 1

glHalfLife, thank you for taking the time out to explain that so well. Merc, I'm sure it wouldn't have put you out too much to do that would it? Of course if you really didn't want to take the time out to explain something, logic will hopefully tell you next time not to post at all.

The update has brought some new bugs for me. For some reason it keeps trying to default my settings to more than my PC can handle, despite having settings saved that were more than fine.

I now get 55-60 fps instead of 45-50, no idea why....

I like the new bullet holes now, they look more realistic.

Only the metal bullet holes look more realistic. The wood ones look EXTREMELY bad. I though they would avoid the problem with splintering wood, but I guess it's not feasible in a multiplayer game.

I like the update, but i have 1 semi-major problem that i cant fix. Since the update bullet decals dont show up properly for me. On floors and wood they show up, but on walls they only show up if i am less than a meter away from the wall, then they dissapeer as i back away. On barrels they dont show up at all. Any ideas?

New update works great for me. Now when I shoot the bullet actually hits what I am aiming at.

Playing a beta for free for a game thats not out yet = awesome
Letting valve know about the bugs your experiencing = helpfull
Complaing about a beta your not really intitled to play = priceless.

I mean you could not be playing it....if it doesnt work right on your pc....wait till another patch comes out and let valve know about what your experiencing....

So much for a good update! The game worked fine for me until this last update that came out. Now I can only play for about three rounds before it crashes to the desktop. Steam does not crash, just the game. It always happens right at the begining of the round? The only change to my system other than the update was adding a brand new Plantronics DSP-300 which works great. The game will crash if voice is enabled or disabled. I thought it might be a heat issue or memory problem, but Call of Duty works fine and so did CS:Source until the last update.

I am running a P4 2.6Ghz, 1Gb DDR 3200 Ram, Asus P4P800 Deluxe, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb, Western Digital Raptor SATA Hard Drive for my games which is a different physical drive than my WD Special Edition for my WinXP Pro drive. My resolution is running at 1024x768 for the game, and 1280x1024 for my dual monitor desktop (19" and 17" CRT's).

Any suggestions, or am I at the mercy of VALVe to release another patch at this point?

I was having lots of game crashing to desktop issues until last night. Turns out that installing the latest .NET framework did the trick. Hope this works for someone else.
