I've just started listening to Ska, what are some good bands I should listen to?

Besides Sublime and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Catch-22
Spring-Heeled Jack USA
Liberator
Chickenpox
Skankin Pickle
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
The Toasters
The Specials
The Skatalites
Mustard Plug
Blue Meanies
Streetlight Manifesto
Aquabats
(their early stuff is more ska, but every single one of their albums is SOLID GOLD).

You know, I'm not a big fan of ska, but you should get 311's first two albums and Hoobustank (their Basket ball shorts album)

Sublime was a good band

311, bleck.

Man, I don't even know where to start. What you want to do is find compilation CDs and pick your favorites from there and explore them further.

I hate 311 and Hoobastank. Talk about mediocre garbage.

oh, well like I said, I dont know much about ska, both their early material was pretty ska to me, before they went mainstream

Streetlight Manifesto is about the only good modern ska band.

Now if we are talking real ska, and not that shit these young hoodlums threw together in their garage, well.........

I saw the Specials in concert with an ex-girlfriend. Ska sounds like a cross between ranchera and zydeco if you ask me. I didn't think Sublime was considered ska? She was nuts about a band called Lets Go Bowling, which may be worth a look.

ska sounds like reggae to me ..although I admit I'm not a fan of the third wave of ska (aka modern ska) ..I'm more into the roots and the two tone era of ska. A lot of the modern day ska sounds more like a hybrid than ska

here's a good sampling of what the different eras sound like:

I'm more of a third wave fan, it has more of a punk feel to it. Which is good.

Does Reel Big Fish count?

Because I like Reel Big Fish.

EDIT: Damn, Ninja'd by Swan_song. >.<

More punk-ska than pure ska, but Adequate 7 and 4ft Fingers are two really good bands.
