Gordon Freeman's Glasses

Why is there a discussion about the glasses of a video game character?

Have you no shame?

Yes, if it has morphine than it HAS to have glass cleaner.

That's sig worthy.

All in all, it would be interesting, loosing the glasses :p

Heroes have the right to wear glasses, but there is a much more embarassing question about Gordon. How does he sh it or pee?!!!
With that HEV suit it would be very complicated, so he must be wearing some kind of Pampers.
How do you feel to have played Half-Life with panties full of sh it ?
Or maybe the HEV suit has some recycling device that can convert your embarassment into some delicious chocolate bar and soda !

Then if they fell off you would have to make sure not to step on them or else you'ed be screwed the whole game..
Creeping about in Ravenholm, alert with the crowbar at the ready, he stumbles over a rise in the pavement and his glasses fall down. As he searches for them, he hears a crunch.

It would SOOO be all over.

edit: 100 away from the big TWO - OH! (oh oh)

Republic Commando had something *kinda* similar. When you skewered an enemy in close combat, or took some particularly damaging blows to the head, your visor would be covered in alien blood or punctures/scratches, respectively. In keeping with the Star Wars theme, a little laser thing came and cleaned it back up, but it was a really nice touch of "you're there". I think Valve could work something like this as an option into something in the future.

As a side-note, Project Hull Breach I believe is doing some major work with visors (when it's down you have a HUD, but your hearing is muffled).
EDIT: Fixed some screwups.

There is a limit to how immersive a game can be before it gets annoying. Glasses effects are on the wrong side of that line in Half-Life 2's case.

Heh, I can pitcure Gordon wearing a Croakie that says "<3 ponies' on the elastic.

Well, I think the glasses has no special capabilities or what so ever... or maybe it does if you press the "z" button during gameplay.

that's the suit.

Well, I think the suit added zooming abilities in his glasses.

yeah, seems like the suit might be integrated with the glasses a bit... which could mean that the entire suit could be interpreted as part of the glasses, in which case they're the most kickass pair of glasses in existence.

Nah... I think Gordon Freeman only managed to wear the suit. You can clearly see(before you wear the suit) That there is no helmet attached to it.

You can also clearly see that the SMG has no grenade launcher :p

No, what you do is the glasses latch onto the suit, and then Gordon gets laser eyes and x-ray vision. But he couldn't work out how to turn it on or off. There's probably a way to activate your own resonance cascade using the HEV suit alone, but Gordon never looked in the manual.

Well, you cant also read the manual even at high resolution.

Yeah... but its not the same as the helmet part. I believe that of all scientist that wore an HEV. he's the only that didnt wear a helmet at all.

What about Gina, and that other one...
And please no helmet talk... LOOOOOOOOOONG discussion about it on Leak-Free (BM:S)... :)

I remember that, ugh. Welcome to HL2.net Mith'.

I can pitcure a Vortigaunt wearing glasses, it'd be just one big spectacle on frames

havent any of you guys seen that episode of south park where cartman gets glasses? the eye doctor knows hes gonna just take em off and sit on em, so he staples them to his head! Brilliant! gordon must have done that when he was a kid!

LOL. Where did that come from? That's my next avitar.

Riomhaire, I am in a state of minor randomness now, look at TDE's new sig if you don't believe me.

EDIT: It's 2:37, that is what is causing the randomness :|:|:|

That happened to me a while ago, it led to some funny g-man and Lamarr theories
Back on topic, Gordon's glasses are glued to his hair.

I just think it is one of those "It's just a game" type scenario when it comes to his glasses, but the HL1 model WITHOUT the glasses is what confused me.

Mabey he wears them to fool the Combine into thinking that he's just a harmless nerd....until he unleashes hell....and...like...throws stones at them...or something...maybe..

The fogginess would be a good idea in thought, but you must consider how inconvinient it would be if your glasses fogged or fell off during an intense gun fight.

So my answer is no, I don't need the effect.

Yeah, I'm with Danimal on this.

The helmet discussion can now be closed. If you look in "Raising the Bar" on page 31 on the image in the lower half of the page, there is a picture of Gordon in the HEV suit, holding the helmet under his arm, there is also a slightly fainter picture beside that of the HEV suit with the helmet in place. So, YES, there is a helmet to it.
nyer nyer....so there.

Glasses wouldnt be good in HL3 because Valve wants us to picture whoever Gordon is. So giving him glasses, takes away our image of him.

If the HEV had a "wash your glasses while you fight" function i'd also like the "fight for you" and "cook dinner" function added too.

But you forgot the "Take the dog for a walk " function.

Gordon's glasses provide no vision correction whatsoever, he just really likes Dashboard Confessional :)
