Yeah. I've seen it before. It's in Raising the Bar.

yeah but not in the forums right? oh and could u tell me if u have a pic of gordon's model refrence? i'm really looking for it.

What a fugly looking man. I've seen this before and have and will always be thankful that good ol' gordo isn't a lumberjack.

As everybody keeps saying, this has been seen before, but who cares. It's funny!

GORDON IS REALLY A MAD VIKING SENT FORWARD IN TIME BY THE GMAN

Yup, hlnostaliga is fun. Too bad most of the old gameplay vids don't work.

It's hilareous. Gordon was originally a disgruntled insane Swede.

u should see what barney looked like, it's like they had no scense of modeling back then, personally i agree withhaving model reference, cause it makes them look so much more real. u could see barney's pic in the site, thnkx, later.

The model's included in HL:Source, for those with enough savvy to look for it.

That's not gordon! That's Ivan the Spacebiker! seriously.
SO technically its not the old gordon model, just a different main character ;)

He could have looked like this!

That's one bitchin' hairdo. Honestly, I'm soooo thankful that they reworked Gordon's image. Imagine if it remained unchanged. How would he look in Half-Life 2? "Gordon the amazing beer-bellied lumberjack, now looking especially drunk and ragged thanks to Valve's new animation system!".

:x

I made a topic about this a while back. Some comparison shots I made.

Gordon: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/absinth3/freeman_copy.jpg
Kleiner: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/absinth3/kleiner.jpg
Barney: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/absinth3/barney.jpg

Find and use a program called "uncook95" to fix those movies.

It just isn't Gordon until he dons those thick glasses.

Ha, the original Kleiner looks crazy.

My god, that's really how Half-Life originally looked, huh?

Valve was working on Half-Life until one day they decided the game was not good enough and too Quake-like. So they restarted the project nearly from scratch, reusing only a few stuff.

I would love to play the pre-Half-Life version of Half-Life!
I remember asking Ken Birdwell about it (2-3 years ago) and he said he has a playable version of it somewhere. Maybe we could ask him to look for it?
It would be so cool to see what Half-Life could have been :p

That would be cool. They thought '**** it, let's start again.' Someone started making this level. It was good. So they made the level longer, and added stuff, and soon it got so big they had to split it up into lots of sub-levels, and eventually it was big enough and good enough that they sold it as Half-Life.

Heh, I'd love to play the pre-Half-Life game as well, that would be hilarious

Half-Life was originaly going to be a very unserious game packed to the brim with waky and dark humour.

But it is packed to the brim with wacky and dark humour. :D

OMG OMG OMG!

I know it's generally frowned down upon to be excited about the things that get cut from games (Those long archived Hydra threads smell a bit crispy), but i've lost too much of my pathetic free time to reading about (and in some cases, playing with) Dust Wars, T-Mat motherships, Hidden Palace zones and all multitude of sub-par or too extravagant ideas, to not be excited that somewhere there exists the Half-Life that we were never supposed to play. Sure it's crap, but like the archeologist who sorts through the the junk of ancient civilisation, it's damned interesting crap.

I wouldn't say packed to the brim. And there isn't that much wakcy humour, though there is a good bit of dark

Oh alright. Lamarr and the scientist's constant remarks were pretty wacky though. :p

So, anyone e-mailed Valve about the very first incarnation of Half-Life?
If you get any reply, post it here.

I love pre-release stuff. I love searching for early screenshots, videos and playable stuff. Quake, Half-Life and Unreal have the most interesting pre-release stuff in the history of games.

Even though we know the first attempt at Half-Life was crappy (Valve wouldn't restart the project if it wasn't crap), it would be awesome to see it, see how the things in HL were born!

Argh! :p

LOL like cs 1.5 where the AWP has cross hairs....ah fond memories.
