sure enough pitz gets new car.. my engine asplodes in my bug >< GARR.. im getting sick of that thing asploding all the ****ing time.
 
a chip ($500) for the new GTi (2.0T) gives it 303ft/lbs at 3500. You don't need 8 cylinders to make low end power ;)

You can't get a set up like that without getting stronger axles, stronger pistons, stronger crankshafts, etc in a 2.0 car without breaking stuff. Those kinds of cars weren't meant for that kind of power. I'm not saying it can't be done, but a you are going to need more than a chip to give you that kind of stable power. All a chip will do is give you wide open throttle as soon as you hit the peddle.

Haha, I like the sound of a turbo more than a grumbly engine.
Something tells me you haven't heard the roar of a high performance v8. The sound of a v8 truck and a v8 Corvette are much different.

I am so sick of seeing vettes *not your fault*. I see at least 20 while driving from point a to point b here. I used to think they were really hot, but now I'm so burnt out on seeing them...gah.

Yeah, they have the same 13b that is in a the 2nd and 3rd gen RX7, but it's tuned REALLY good..only problem is, the 8 is way heavier than the 2nd and 3rd gen. Make it a bit lighter, put a turbo on it, whew...fast.
 
what would you guys suggest if my main concern was cost and speed

It's been dyno proved hundreds of thousands of times. VW owners chip their cars like it's a factory option, and as such, every vw show I go to there's multiple people who just have a chip and maybe exhaust or an intake, and they constantly put down expected numbers. VW is not going to engineer a car that can take 230ft/lbs and then break with 70 more ft/lbs of torque. Nobody is.

Just....no. A chip (for turbo cars) MAINLY just changes boost, but of course if you're going to throw more air into the motor then you need more fuel, so a chip also changes the air/fuel calculations to adjust for this extra air as well as tweak the curve for more top end power.

I live in Alabama, not only do I see modified GT's/WS6's on a daily basis but I've also driven a ws6, c5 z06, and an m5 just to name a couple; I go to the local drag strip pretty regularly where pretty much every car there is a v8.

There's just more to cars than how they sound.

Tyguy - if you want a cheap, fast, reliable car your best bet is a Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, etc... The AWD Japs are very expensive and haven't been around for too long. They haven't had enough time on the market to depreciate much.

Ok then by that statement my moms Mazda Protege 4 cyl should be able to handle 303hp right? I never said that motor companys put out engines at their max, i just said that there is a certain limit that a stock car can take before things start to break. Now depending on the car, you should be able to push about 35-40% more out of an engine with stock parts but you guys are talking about going from a 2.0L 140hp car to 300.

Sad but true. I'm really tired of the C5 corvette (1997-2004) but i do get a kick out of checking out the stingrays and new corvettes.

Second the GTi is built KNOWING it will be tuned. There's a big difference when you're designing a car knowing it will be tuned. VW isn't going to make a car that as is popular as the GTi and make it so when you upgrade the turbo or chip it the whole car falls apart. They're going to spend a couple extra dollars and build a car that can handle being lightly tuned. This way they sell more cars since people who are into modding cars won't buy a car that falls apart with even slight tuning.
 
My girlfriend (ok her dad officially owns the cars) has a 93 Vette with the LT-5 engine, a 98 Trans Am with the Ws6 ram-air package, a 69 Olds 442 with a $10000 crate motor and $5000 heads (very very fast, at least 1600 rwhp with the nitrous, lots o' torque), an 86 Firebird with the 305, a 66 and 70 Olds somethings (no idea what is going on with these they be pro mod), a 70-something Vette, at least 1 Camaro, and I can't remember all of them. There are like 14 in all.

EDIT: I drive a 1996 Mustang V6 with the 4 speed auto. Dad drives a 2002 Mustang V6 as well, but it is a stick. We rebuilt both of them. Got mine for $800 spent $1000 replacing airbags and fixing it, got in a wreck and insurance gave us $2400 to fix it. In total my car cost $400 there is no way you can get as nice a car for that much money, hell, the stereo costs that much.

I am not a expert but I think you should considering first about buying a old car since is more problable to find a old car cheap that a new one
anyway I think speed should not be a concern,cuz why? to show to da gangstaz how fazt so furiox yo ballz are?
you should focus first on funcionality
unless you are some millonaire
