...if anyone cares. Gothic III was a big disappointment for me so I REALLY hope they can learn from their mistakes and make a game to rival the Elder Scrolls series. The art looks pretty cool though, esp. the last pic I put in there at the bottom.

Here.

pretty graphics wont wipe the taste of turd that was Gothic 3

they'd really have to get good reviews for me to pick up G4

You'd think they assumed nobody had thought of trees and rocks before.

Looks pretty nice I guess. That said I played all of a minute of Gothic 3 and still managed to hate it.

The whole concept of screenshots are starting to piss me off these days. They only ever focus on showing graphics rather than gameplay, and so it's like the emphasis is always on graphics. GRAPHICS DON'T COME FIRST! GRAPHICS DON'T MATTER IF GAMEPLAY SUCKS ASS!

but how would they show gameplay in a static screenshot?

The graphics are still nice though :P

I've never played a Gothic game before, I'll keep an eye out for this one, see how it turns out.

They make people focus on the graphics. "Look how pretty our game is, look how great it looks!"

I don't give a **** about graphics these days.

If a game sports really good graphics, 9 times out of 10 it will suck badly. Good graphics are a sign of crappy games, because companies most often focus more on graphics and less on gameplay.

And screenshots showing nothing other than visual elements of the world, rather than scenes that might pique my curiosity... remind me of that fact.

Well actually to be fair, screenshots can show more than just graphics. They can show scenes as I mentioned just above, that pique my curiosity.

GTA IV was great in this regard. They had their pretty screenshots, but most of them focused on scenes that really intrigued me concerning gameplay. Gameplay doesn't actually have to be shown in motion for it to be revealed.

I loved gothic 2, gothic 3 i could hardly play. I really hope they can make a decent game.

I've never played Gothic but if they make it TES style, except actually playable without any stupid gameplay features *cough* Oblivion *cough*, I may give it a try. Graphics are nice but then again Oblivion proved that they aren't everything.

I loved Gothic 3.

Also, keep in mind that Piranhas won't be working on this or any other Gothic title, JoWood screwed them over and gave the franchise to Spellbound. You know, the guys responsible for the Realms of Arkania.

Looks perty.

*starts saving for a nasa computer*

Just kill this shit series already.

Every single game has had horrible cameras and boring combat.

Well the visuals are there (as if they mattered in the first place).

Now let's see if they can manage to get some unbroken gameplay in there.

Gothic > You

Lol. But Number 3 was good. I haven't played much as I don't like the fact that I don't know where and what to do after a while and where things are when i accept a quest.

Plus with the last patch and the expansion pack coming out, I look forward to playing it again and having some fun. :D

The hate and love for Gothic has been rather balanced from what I've seen.

Which in itself is a real poor percentage, don't you think? If only half my clients liked my work i'd kill myself.

No way, Jose.

Lawd, I hate "gameplay over graphixxx lololol" bullshit. As if they're completely separate entities. But they're not, graphics are a part of gameplay: the presentation of a game (visuals, sound) make up a large part of what makes a game fun to play. Take GTA4 for example, the combat in GTA4 has improved HUGELY over the combat of GTA3. But not because they improved the mechanics of it, they're mostly the same apart from the cover system. They just improved how combat looks and sounds; bullet impacts look much better, bullets leave orgasmic looking 3D bullet holes, explosions look amazing, guns sound beefy and it all mixes together to make the combat feel good.

Graphics are a part of gameplay and they are important.

Not quite the best comparison. The problem here no doubt stems form lack of exposure. I personally have not seen too many rants for or against Gothic as a good/bad game. Meanwhile I quite like it so uh yeah.

Graphics are a part of gameplay and they are important.

Indeed. I don't think too many people enjoy GTA IV without the level of detail it currently has.

Meanwhile Gothic 4 is being made by another dev group? Anyone have more information on that?
