Past that, I'd say DX:IW, I haven't played it yet (waiting to beat FFTA first), but I loved the demo and I've played maybe 20 minutes of the game, gonna be fun (I kinda wanna beat DX first, but I can't see myself doing that when DX:IW is there as temptation)
Pendragon said:Vice City was pretty good, but it lacked the originality the series had with GTA3. Sure, it may have had good gameplay, helicopters, and motorcycles, but it wasn't really original. KotOR, on the other hand, was a great step forward for RPGs and for games in general.
Pendragon said:It was a step for RPGs in general because of the way it included a beautiful, compelling story, but wasn't linear. The story, while maintaining quality and coherence, allowed the player to wander and experience the world as they saw fit. It was filled with optional, story-building quests, and the settings were all vivid and original. I know KotOR is original because the whole reason I haven't been much of an RPG fan is because every game before KotOR was doing the things that I love KotOR for not doing.
Beyond this being the worst thing you can say about a game developer, especially a developer of story-based games, all games are about Good vs. Evil. I can't think of a single game that doesn't amount to that in one form or another.
Pendragon said:I sense a bit of conflicting messages there. You criticize KotOR for something you say every game does, yet, being a gamer, you must like some of them. What's wrong with KotOR there?
Perhaps it just wasn't for you then. While I don't think the SW universe is great, it certainly can do some fun things in my opinion. I guess that's a matter of tastes.
Therefore, while anyone one facet of KotOR might not be original, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and the whole's originality is greater than the sum of its parts' originality.
However, given that we both liked the game, it seems futile to continue arguing. I just liked it and held it in higher regard than you I guess
What I meant is if I'm playing Deus Ex, I'd rather be playing Deus Ex: Invisible War, since it looks alot nicer and is more fun, IMO (not saying DX isn't fun, but, I can't get myself to play through all of it.. I got a fifth the way through the game and kinda stopped)thehunter1320 said:DX:IW is a temptation to u? :|.... wierdo
HL1 wasn't exactly revolutionary in terms of features for its time, yet it still won numerous GOTY awards.. who's to say HL2 won't be the same type of case?ray_MAN said:Too bad HL2 couldn't be my game of the year. I doubt it will be next year.
Ah, lol, I hadn't even noticed he said "my game of the year," I thought he said GOTY.. my bad :xPendragon said:He's referring to the other games that look to be similarly revolutionary that are also set to release next year, like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Doom 3, etc. HL2 will likely still be the game we all want it to be, but it will lose some of its lustre in comparison.
I just can't get enough of playing with the dynamic lights and shadows.. hours of fun lolPendragon said:I didn't think anyone would mention DX:IW. Is it really that good? While I've heard that initial hatred was unfounded, it was still only a so-so game. What d'ya think?
SnowBall said:I would say Deus Ex: IW, but I feel like I'm forgetting something. The bugs really piss me off (random crashes, deltes saves, reboots computer, loading issues, lack of resolution support). However the game, the graphics, gameplay. even the DVD case it comes it really impresses me. I also love the amazing amount of replay it has for a Single player game. The only thing stopping me from playing it over and over are the terrible glitches.
