Grand Theft Auto IV

It's less graphically outstanding than I imagined it to be, but it still looks great, very realistic feel to the videos.

It's odd because to me it looks better.

I agree. If you compare it to Saints Row it kinda looks better.
I mean everything in Saints Row looked perfect. Everything felt too plastic! In GTA IV from what I have seen it looks pretty realistic.

YES! for tactical police movement! :D

And Black Hawk helicopters... awesome. But seriously, this looks fantastic. I think the graphics look really damned good, and theres a certain style to it that I find familar. Either way, when they kicked the door down and the quick shot of the guy backed up against a wall held up by a gun/torch both looked awesome.

If it's in a cut scene it might be used in actual gameplay, too. :p I really do hope so. Not looking forward to having police run head on into me then stopping still to shoot me in the face point blank.

Yeah, I'd say that's from a cutscene too. But it still looked insanely cool. I bet the story in IV is going to be something epic, something big.

I like that it's apparently gone from a rags-to-riches story to a rags-to-better-rags story.

I say this is bullshit.

What's the motivation to play the game if you know you won't get anywhere, just get a better tracksuit? A rags-to-normal-citizen path would be more fitting.

Have chavs infected Poland too?
D:

We had them before you created the term chav.

( D: )^2

I can't speak for everyone, but my motivation to play will be to experience the story and the game. If the story ends with Niko having just one house and a car, I say that's a damn good thing, because I'd hate for GTA4 to give me the same outcome as San Andreas and Vice City.

Besides, I think that what you're saying is what the developers were trying to outline for us. Perhaps compared to VC or SA, Niko will have "better rags", but compared to his wealth at the beginning of GTA4 he'll end up a low-to-middle-class American.

As long as I have a place to park all my favorite vehicles, like all the past versions of GTA I have played.

Exactly.

Or have a much more complex and serious economy in-game, so that you won't be able to own a myriad of houses, but one and slowly buy better ones along with the clothes.

Oh, and get a shave.

Well based on information given, you have to put money in a bank (which I'm assuming the safety deposit box of the special edition is hinting at). And dying with your money on you can cause you to lose it. The story's supposed to be a rags to better rags tale because who the hell's gonna keep being a criminal when you're rich and own many businesses? You can go legit after that. It's also supposed to show how committing crime is harder in this day and age. And of course, the stranger in a strange land theme with Niko being an immigrant.

The story and characters are what really got me excited for this. Niko seems completely bad ass, not sociopathic like Tommy and not a complaining bitch like CJ. He seems...well real. The new physics help with that too in the way he walks.

If it's possible to go legit, I'm in, totally.

That's what I hated in previous games - they seemed too 'arcadeish'.

Yeah, but why would you want to go legit in this game? That would be game over. No more crimes to commit, what will you do? Committing crimes is what this game is all about.

I meant going legit in that, owning all that business and revenue would be reason to go legit. Which is they were taken out of GTAIV.

Losing money after you die? I don't know about you, but I always loaded the game when I died instead of spawning in front of the hospital with less cash and no weapons, heh. So it's not like I care :p

I always did that as well. Mainly to keep the weapons though.

I never did that if I was still playing through the story.

I did that in GTA3, then stopped in VC. It makes a big difference, loading after every death/bust really takes a LOT of fun out of the game. Trust me, the game is set up so that you probably won't ever have a hard time buying your guns back, just do that and keep all your stats/missions/packagers/etc.

It's too easy in GTA to get the best guns/cars. Money is everywhere too. Money has never played a factor for me in GTA, always had stacks of it.

I thought in SA it was a bit harder considering the first 20 odd missions give you nothing but respect, I'm so glad they took that out.

The only thing I used money for was buying weapons, and alot of the time I was happy just using the Uzi or the AK. Houses, clothes... meh, **** 'em, couldn't be arsed to deal with all that, not important and not fun in my opinion.

But in SA ammunitions are oh so far away.

I spend most of my time in SA driving over the gang members wearing purple and collecting their loot and weapons.

I haven't done many missions yet, still can't resist running over a crowd of the purple gang upon sight. Then I back-up over top of them again a couple times to finish them off.

does anyone know whether or not they're doing online CO-OP for GTAIV??

Of course it needs to be implemented with care and caution. Though it would be fun to see a protection mission where one player animates Niko and the other Roman. ;)

This type of game would be so great with co-op. Perhaps a vs. type mode with one player taking control of the cops. Imagine the pleasure in knocking your mate off the road and watching him burst into a ball of flames :)

It would be, "white collar" crimes and "drug lord" caliber crimes. Think about it, none of that money past GTA characters earned was legit anyways. It was almost all blood money. The feds, mafioso, cartels would all constantly be after Niko. I doubt that's how it's gonna be in GTA IV, but that's the impression I was left with after becoming a millionaire "crime boss" in other GTA's. Rags-to-middle class is lame. :p I'd rather Niko claw his way to the top of the underworld.

P.S. I know this post is old, but I had to get my two cents in on this.

Rags-to-better-rags is going to make GTA IV a fresher experience. I'm glad that's the direction Rockstar have taken.

I don't really like it. If the final objective in the game is to get Niko to live in a sleazy run down motel with 10$ to spare instead of living in Roman's scum pit with no cash, it's not really rewarding.

If however it is a rags-to-middle-class thing, it'd be better.
