Graphic rubbish after update

Hi:
It is some time now, that I restart HL2. After connecting the PC to internet, HL2 updated HL2 and when I start a new game (off line) all graphics were a mess as all text. Everything was blocked and it is impossible to play. The last time I run the game all was well and I did finish the game. (2 or 3 months ago)
I have put a link to some pictures. One of G man and one just leaving the train. The game starts up normal but as soon as mr G starts, graphics go mad.
Have run all possible solutions found on Steam and this site but nothing worked.
My specs:
Asus7v8X-x with via chipset
1 gb memory, corsair pc3200
ATI 9800 pro, 128 mb G Card. ATI 5.4 drivers installed
Iiyama A701GT CRT, running 1024*768 at 85 hz.
All standard settings, fastwrite on, AGP 8X and DirectX 9c.
XP sp2.
The PC (Only for games and foto edditing) has no Firewall, no virus scanning and no anti spyware programms, because it is a stand alone machine.
The only time with a connection to internet is when XP must be upgraded or HL2. (I do not like the need for a internet connection at all but that is another story).
Other games run well (Like IGI2, Farcry and a lot of FS)

Leaving the train
Mr. G

The picture of MR G is taken at the very beginning, just when you see his first eye.
Any adeas what can cause this problem?
Thanks

You said that it has been a while since you last played it. If I read correctly 2 or 3 months.I don't think that upgrading HL2 caused the error, though it is possible. I think that your 9800 pro is overheating or broken, because those look like artifacts that are caused by the card. Try updating your drivers for the card, 5.6 is the latest. If it doesn't work maybe you should have the card checked, it could be overheating because of a problem with the fan on it or maybe something else happened to it.

Check the temperatures on your graphics card and post them here.

Thanks.
Will update the drivers today and see. Because farcry runs well it could be the drivers.
Stupid question, but how can you measure the temp of the graphic card?
Is there a program to do this?

Small update
Seems that I suffer from 2 problems:
First, update was not 100%
Second, drivers were not properly installed.
The game runs very good now.
Strange though, that farcry did not react on the driver issue. Good game. :p
