GREAT HL2 information from someone who visited Valve last week!

i read an interview where the question to doug was are there any plans to make a hl2 themed mp blah blah blah, and doug simply said 'nope'. maybe ill try and find it. but it definately happened.

although i find it odd that doug would flat out say that, its not valve's style to close possibilities like that so fast. but maybe they are just sick of being asked that heh

hey, besides... what would be the point? :E i mean, sure, cool. but do they mean adding graphical updates? or what kind of content are they talking about? it wouldn't make a lot of sense to add a weapon when you've already played a section of the game, so it can't be that type of content. maybe they talk about expansions, like lbue-shift2, stuff like that...

I have been trying to get a point across to these butt pirates for months, and even now after Valve has finally admitted that not only is there no HL2 multiplayer, but there is also none planned, they still hold onto that stupid idea that Valve somehow gives enough of a shit about them to make them a DM mode after the release.

I have, for demonstrative purposes, highlighted the particular phrases that detract from the credibility of your arguments; you may have a point, but it doesn't stop you sounding like an idiot. Not to mention your making out that you're this poor sod on a lonesome quest for spreading the word of truth.

For the record, I don't try to be witty or funny on internet forums. I leave my humour and charm for those that I speak to in real life.

It shows. I sincerely hope that you are more charming in real life. My gripes apply to many people on the internet, yourself included, who seem to take the anonymity as an excuse to jump on a high-horse and shoot people down unnecessarily harshly. In a recent interview with Doug Lombardi (no, I don't have a link, shut up) he was asked if there is a basic DM or TDM mode in the works at Valve and Doug told the interviewer that no HL2 multiplayer is planned.

I think it's kind of old news though, the intention was making enough new content each month to support a monthly subscription. Allthough i agree that Multiplayer is probably farfetched, atleast the first couple of months, they'll probably not have time to make anything in that style.

And when they do it's a matter of relevance, since there probably would be mods shadowing their new content.

Over at HL2Fallout.com, one of their members (Nav) visited Valve last week and got this little bit of information from Gabe and the boys:

Valve plans to continue to add content to HL2 after its release. The new content will be FREE and the more people go on to Steam to download the new content, the more new content they will add. I will imagine that retail customers will be able to download the new content as well.

Now can I confirm that this lad is telling the truth? No, I can't but he did go to Valve last week. If this is the case, then this is truly awesome!

anybody else not really excited by this (assuming that "new content" means "new single-player maps")? Adding "new missions" would disrupt the storyline, especially if the new stuff is not up to the same quality as the inititial released levels. I'd much rather "new content" was adding stuff for CS:s, HL:s, DoD:s, more engine features, and finetuning the AI. Save the new levels for a quality expansion pack.

Doug Lombardi - Right now, we do not have DM or CtF modes for HL2 in production.

Doug's answer implies that they will not make a HL2 themed multiplayer game. You can try to interpret the wording to mean otherwise, like that they will start production on it in the future, but if that were true Doug could just as easily have mentioned it.

Doug's answer was more of a "no, and we don't really care right now" answer because the question asked if HL2 multiplayer will be released at some point and there was no mention of a possibility that it will happen at some point. In my opinion they are concentrating on TF2, after a vacation.

There was multiplayer but they removed It somewhere along the way.

Has anyone considered that this "additional content" might entail things which were removed from HL2 because they had not yet been able to perfect them... (the hydra for one, possibly, or maybe the return of the Houndeyes).

I would NOT expect whole new levels or free expansion packs just because we bought via steam (dream on), but finetunes to engine, AI, or added monsters/weapons would be cool.

And for the sake of all that is holey (sic), please stop ASKING for HL2 themed MP, and get to HELPING the mod community make it happen if you really want it!

They wouldn't add on to HL2, because they are saving that for $30 expansion packs (simple logic). Since HL2 has no distinct multiplayer that only leaves us with CS:S updates. :| That isn't so great now.

maybe they will release an update which includes a simple MP for HL2.. something more obvious in terms of an update probably means more SP maps for HL2 and the typical CSS maps redone.
