I don't think we've had one of these yet. I always find it hard to make my 'best games ever' list, but it's easy for demo's, I can easily remember with what demo's I've had the most fun with.

1: Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer demo

I've had SO MUCH fun with this demo, it was great. It had the Wake map, possibly one of the best MP maps ever. Everything was cool about this demo, owning with a tank, trying -but failing-, to fly a plane, doing an assault on a flag with a couple of guys.. ahhh memories :E

2: Soldiers: Heroes of WWII

One sentence:
It never gets boring blowing the crap out of everything with a 60.000 kg tank!

3: IL2 Sturmovik

Great demo with many options, had its own quick mission builder, and was just one of the few flightsims that was just really fun to play. The graphics are still very good (there's a RTS coming out from Codemasters with this engine) and it was awesome to try to go as fast as possible, going straight down from 10.000 metres I almost broke the sound barrier before my plane was ripped to pieces because of the G-Forces.

4: Hitman 2

I don't know why really, but I've played this demo so many times, I tried every way of completing it. With cheats, it gave you all the weapons (including weapons that were actually not available in the demo in normal ways).

5: Halo PC

Just fun trying to piss of the friendly NPC's and having them shoot at you when you shot them. And it's hilarious to stick a plasma grenade on them and watch them dance around and run to some mates and killing them :E

:o you forgot the original Unreal Tournament demo. that was just spectacular.

Don't forget Joint operations: Typhoon rising beta demo. That demo pwns.

call of duty, that demo was sweet, it made me buy the game so it did its job well.

The 2nd Painkiller demo made me buy the game.

carmageddon and gta were my fondest memorys of demos, so many mods and things, i spent months playing the demos before i finaly got the full versions.

The first FarCry demo blew my brains out. I also had a lot of fun w/ the UT2003 and 2004 demos.

ut2004 demo and the call of duty demos, not to mention the jedi academy demo

bf1942 demo was a tank. it revolutionized gaming...well 1942 did anyways... and wake is the best 1942 map... wow I have some amazing memories from that demo.. :O :O

The first (and best) game demo I ever tried was Age of Empires. I played that single game scenario to death.

Aye, the Age of Empires one was sweet... it even had lan play enabled. :)

Another good one was Starseige Tribes...

Woah man, I didn't even know the Soldier heros demo was out!

I agree with BF1942 though, throwing charges into jeeps and then driving them into bases and bombing them was awesome fun

The Quake 3 demo that came out before the actual game was fun as hell.

The 1942 demo influenced me to NOT buy the game. :hmph:

Wow, you guys write games that came out like this year and 2003.. :hmph:

Quake 2, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces, Heart Of Darkness, Age of Empires, Grand Theft Auto, Thief 2, Deus Ex, Urban Chaos, The Dig and Grim Fandango are examples of older demos that I spent alot of time on and some of them made me buy the full versions..

You listed some classics there.

The Tron 2.0 Demo was excellent, especially with the Lightcycle racing...

One of the most addictive demos i've ever experienced was the Need for Speed: Underground demo. I was at a LAN party when I downloaded the demo. Me and two of my friends played that demo for 6 hours straight. It was so much fun trying to get the fastest time with the 350Z on the drag racing course. We'd just be yelling across teh room, "I got 23.45 seconds!!!" and a minute later you would hear "Haha, you suck! I just got 22.79 seconds!!!" and then you would hear a loud "CRAP! HOW THE FU**!!!"

another great demo was the Crimson Skies demo. I remember playing that demo to death because the planes were so damn cool! :)

The Far Cry demo was excellent as was the Painkiller demos

Call of Duty had a demo so awesome that I went out and bought the game when it came out.

Rainbow Six 3 had a fun demo, and the multiplay was very intense with a group of people playing with you....*screw CS 1.X, but Yay for CS Source*

The Half-Life uplink demo because that level wasn't in the retail version.
And same with the Jedi Outcast demo.

I played the grim fandango demo to death. Manny was the best character EVER...

The greatest demo - Splinter Cell.

I had heard about it, and when I played the PC demo I was like - No. This is not possible....

It was everything I hoped from MGS2, and didn't got.

I had a good time with the Escape From Monkey Island demo along with others in this thread.

By far, Starcraft. I played that for atleast a month before I bought the game. It had single player(a mission made just for the demo) and multiplayer, 1 map and only the terrans. But it was soo much fun.

Half-Life: Uplink, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 and Moneky Island 3 (the cartoonish one).

In reply to Direwolf,

IMO, the demo looked more promising then the actual game. Took me 4 months to discover that peg-nosed pete (or something) guy's hideout.

all monky islands rocked, i forgot i played the demos of 3 and 4 over and over again

and grim fandango, i played that demo alot, i never got a chance to buy it when it came out, but last year i found it in a department store sale bin. i hadnt seen it anywhere for years, only 15 bucks australian. fantastic game. to bad the adventure game market is dead. **** lucas arts for canning sam and max 2. it was looking good damnit

sam and max hit the road was another demo i played for ages.

I want to assasin the lucasarts M.D for canceling sam and max: freelance police.

Curse of monkey island is my all time fav., I still play the game to this day. I e-mail Lucasart every year to remind them that "make the next MI game already!"...and rarely get replied back. Escape was a lil' dissapointment - too short, but then it's an adventure game.

Was wondeing how a cartoony MI 5 would look with the doom 3 engine...all shiny and glossy...
