I really don't see the significance of these events, but I can't really judge since I haven't experienced one.

Lets say that they're not entirely frowned upon in the context of an epic incident. Allthough I'm merely guessing, having witnessed only one incident myself, my experience is very limited. You should consult the experts, but I tell you, they're not easy to find these days, and even harder to make them talk.
