Spitfire can turn tighter, climb faster and put out more lead than the Bf-109.

Actually, if you want to get technical, the F-15C was designed for air superiority and the F-15E was later designed for ground attack. All variants of the F/A-18 were designed for both roles, so obviously there will be a compromise, putting the F-15C ahead of the game.

I don't see why the Fokker Dr. 1 was on there. Sure, it was an excellent climber and the tightest turner of the war, but the Fokker D. VII was by far the best overall plane of WWI.

Yeah, it is. This isn't the best fighter plane ever-poll, it's the greatest fighter plane ever-poll, and the Fokker Dr. 1 was not only a good fighter, it was cool, it's rather unique in that it's a triplane (as far as I know the only other successful triplane was the sopwith triplane), and it's embedded in people's minds as the Red Baron's plane. Ergo, it is great.

I agree, in computer games it's best aircraft you can have. Once I had squadron of elite nuke MiGs and I completely annihilated base of the enemy only with them. By the way, it's Mikoyan Project 1.44. In real world F-22 and F-35 are probably most advanced aircrafts equiped by cutting-edge technology.

Even though I agree with you, if we are talking iconic planes and the Fokker is an option, the Sopwith Camel deserves a Poll option too. In my mind those two planes are World War 1.

Each had their strengths. Sure, the Spitfire (circa BoB) had more guns, but they fired a puny .303 round, whereas the Bf-109 had two 20mm cannons that could do a helluva lot more damage. Although the Spitfire could turn more tightly, the Bf-109 had a better diving rate, and also had fuel-injection, whereas its opponents did not.

So each had its strengths, and they were always classic archenemies.
