Green Day and My Chemical Romance.

if we refer to emo, are we speaking of stuff like mcr, good charlotte, simple plan? because in general, every song is emo, in a way or another.
No, "Emo" is another animal altogether from these bands--these bands are what is commonly termed as "Poser-punk."

Go here to find out about emo and its bands--some of them are actually quite good, but like any good movement, it started out so great and then became trendy and showy and vapid and perverted(I mean that in a "marked by misinterpretation and distortion" sense rather than a "dirty old man" sense).

Clearly Iron Maiden is the best band out there, more then 25 years and still awesome. I dont know any other band out there that is as consistently good as Maiden. They perform even better live now, then when they were young, and they have just the same if not more energy on stage.

stfu all of you:p

Queen ftw now stfu discussion is over

QFT

Everyone listens to EMO and I despise it along with all the generic metal kids listen to (I don't hate it all it is just so overplayed). Thats why I usually listen to different genres/artisits.

I love all genres though, as long as it is good music!

I think, that The Who was one of the founders of punk. They're not a punk band on their own, but if you listen, sounds to me like they had a profound impact on Punk in its prime. They didn't start the genre at all, but you can hear allot of their influence in the genre.

Yeah, and Robert Johnson can be seen as the great godfather of pretty much all rock music ever too, so the whole punk movement really started with him .

I dunno though, some of his bluesier stuff sounded kind of emo, dontcha think?

Nothing wrong with hip-hop.

And I love classic country. They sang about things that were worth singing about!

hip hop sucks

"yeah gonnna go to the club have alota money gonna kill somebody bitch shake thatthing" thats Hip Hop for you

People like country?

Aren't there bullets out there with your names on them? What's with the hold-up?

Country is possibly just as bad as mainstream hip-hop/rap/crunk/****-else.

Every single goddamn song is in the same key, with the same rhythm, about the same stupid truck that broke down and the same crappy dog that died and the same goddamn wife/girlfriend that left you, and now you're going to smoke or drink 'till you fall asleep and wallow in your own self-pity.

But hey, whatever floats your boat :)

I happen to live in the country and I take great offence to this!!! (KIDDING!!!) Seriously, I dispise country. Do you know how annoying it is to hear a car racing down the street with - not hip hop or r&b pumping out of their speaker system, but country?! Damn the hicks of Australia, damn you to HELL!!!!! Nah, just kidding, everyone has there own opinion about music, and if you (like Stigmata said) enjoy listening to songs about poor, derelict towns that no-one likes anymore or cows, go for it.

Try living with a roommate who listens to the same country songs over and over again.

"Down thar with mah pick-up truck..."
*Mournful guitar pitch-bend*
"Jess' you and me with the blood hound..."
*Mournful guitar pitch-bend*
"Drinkin' MOOOOOOOONSHIIIIIIIIINE"
*Mournful guitar pitch-bend*
"Eatin' POOOSSSUMMMMMMM"

And if it's not that, then I'm hearing that nasal whiny dick from Blink 182 scream "SO HERE'S YOUR HOLIDAAAAAAYYYYY".

Thats shitty commercial Hip Hop, any genre gets crap when its at that level of popularity. I suggest you listen to the good stuff (eg Sage Francis)

ROflmao. I couldn't agree anymore my friend.

I've just got the black parade (MCR's newish album) and I think it's great. Not so whiney but really catchy and just generally great music to have playing whilst doing stuff.

Seeing as how this thread has been risen from the dead, I'll have a go-

I used to like green day, for about two months. Sometime last year. They're a good band and all, but all their songs started to run together- seriously, they all sound a little samey, especially if you don't like them much. Dookie is still one of my favorite albums ever, though.

American idiot, I haven't listened to much at all. maybe once the whole way through. I can't really put my finger on what, but something's different about it, and it took a turn for the worst. Who knows, it might even be the fact that Billy joe has died his hair black and wearing red ties on black, lingering in the back of my head that makes me not like it. I absolutely hate today's fashions and trends.

My Chemical Romance is ok, as long as you don't take them seriously. And don't listen to the lyrics. And try to imagine the singer's voice wasn't one of those high pitched, poppy sounding shit-jobs. Or think about how they seem to be so full of themselves. Or that they have one of the most stupid images they could have chosen for a band...(goth pop? wtf?) And like, as long as nobody you know catches you listening to them, they're an ok band.

The Black Parade is a really awesome album. Really good stuff, I recomend a listen even if you're not into My Chemical Romance.

I remember this thread :D!!!!!!!!!

That was back when my brain worked allot better :( :( :)

HORRAY FOR MARIJUANA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually was pretty darned impressed by American Idiot when it first came out. I still think that some of the tracks are darned good as music, but I've come to really be annoyed by the whole culture that it got absorbed into and just how much the album got milked for publicity.

btw, Black parade is actually pretty ok. I only heard a couple songs on it though, my mate kept skipping around.

Still, I wouldn't want anybody to catch me listening to it :O

I only got it because my sister wanted it, but after playing it I thought it was pretty good.

Green Day is alright, I especially loved them during the last election, and went to one of their concerts...only because things were so politically charged back then. But now I realize their music is not very good. (I do like their mid 90's stuff)

My chemical romance, what can I say? Cheezy, awful, stupid music.

"Black Parade" has an idiotic message, its trying to be big and majestic, but instead comes off as cheezy and stupid.

Quit with the emo and punk and give me some good indie and grunge, please.

Wow, ...I posted in this thread a long time ago. Wait -- it can't be:

MY POST COUNT DOESN'T ALLOW IT.

I won't lie, I like Green Day. Dookie is a great CD.

My Chemical Romance on the other hand...god...

I prefer Melodic Power metal bands, Symphonic Power metal bands and the old rock (late 80's, some early 90's). I kinda liked green day about 7 or 8 years ago, now they've turned into whiney emo filled conformists.

My chemical romance??....I won't go there. :x

Agree with the general consensus here, AI was by far the worst GD album and MCR just blows hard.

About the only worthwhile song I still listen to from AI is Jesus of Suburbia, the rest have been completely ruined from not being all that great + overplayed x infinity.

I hate both of them.

Their guitar is darn right boring and the lyrics do nothing for me.

Well we can at least all agree that its a cool band name right?

My Chemical Romance that is...
