GT5 thread of dualshock 2 sucks for steering

I'd prefer rFactor 2's physics, as VT2 points out, the rFactor team seems to be the most capable at making a good physics engine for racing, will be fascinating to see how 2 turns out.

Here's the first peek at rFactor 2.

Heat haze. Yeah, GT3 had that, but rFactor 1 still has more realistic vehicle physics than Gran Turismo; rFactor 2 is sure to take the physics further. The only flaws of rFactor were the graphics and unlicensed cars. So they can afford to add some superfluous touches.

They also claim to have vastly improved the particle engine for fire (engine/vehicle/exhaust?), smoke, etc. and are working on rain effects

So now we can get gravel kicking up and falling back to the ground as you traverse over a sandtrap, or grass and chunks of dirt that get kicked up when you spin the tires while offroad. All the skids have had a make over, as well as dust and various car smoke. OH, and our fire now looks like fire

Really? I think that's an interesting idea, actually. The more you race, the harder it gets, and that goes for AI and damage sensitivity. Of course, they are training wheels, and as such, I'd be opposed to it. I'm not learning to drive, guys.

Anyway, let's be honest, I don't think cars being oblivious to each other and running straight into everyone on the line and trying to drive through each other has anything to do with AI difficulty level.

What kind of developer leaves things like AI cars not crashing repeatedly into stationary objects and proper damage to be "switched on" later in the game? That's ****ing stupid.

So, no matter how good a driver you are, your first shitton of races will have the AI be craptacular?

That's not really any better, and Polyphony are idiots.

Let the player decide when they want to play hard opponents or easy ones.

What a stupid idea to make damage and smart AI unlockable features.

Yeah, I'm wildly depressed about the lack of changing difficulty/damage in my early races. having to wait until a stupid high level is NOT what I call fun. I don't play WOW for a reason.

Otherwise, my whole day of playing yesterday was pretty fun. Had a couple buds over and we just blasted through a bunch of the licenses. I really don't like the "My Home" screen layout. It's too damn complicated.

As tedious as the licenses tests are, when they give you a sweet car, they can be a little bit of fun. When it came to GT2 and beyond, I usually passed my first try, if not, then the second.

Yeah, I picture it by the time you get 90% completed of the game, then it becomes a challenge for me. Shame. You can't turn that feature off, maybe the second play-through or something?

Well the GT games before just had the cars driving the best line no matter what kind of car they had so that better cars would pull away by a mile. They never really had aggressive driving styles just... drive the line...

I dunno how you make that dumb. Do they just drive wildly and hit the wall and stuff? I dunno I think I'm kind of over Gran Turismo. This doesn't really bring me back around.

From what I can tell, they have full speed, they just break and take turns retardedly slow. A turn they KNOW they can make WOT, they break on.

Somewhat old news to some....but it's a good read. Thank god they acknowledge some issues with the game!

http://www.gtplanet.net/yamauchi-on-gt5s-mechanical-damage-updates-more/

* Flexible camera angles and “dynamic and wide-area lighting needs” are to blame for the sometimes blocky shadows. Yamauchi admits they are a problem and wants to improve them.
* Yamauchi appears to consider the possibility of removing the in-game HUD (heads-up-display features) at some point in the future.
* To unlock the Red Bull X1, you’ll need to complete the “Sebastian Vettel Challenge”, which appears at Level 30.
* Online “lounge” functionality and other features will be added “one by one”.
* Polyphony Digital continues to work on fully supporting the Logitech G25 and G27, though Yamauchi admits he would like a “new steering device soon”…
* Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”.
* As you may know, many players noticed that GT5’s face-tracking functionality only worked in Arcade mode. According to Yamauchi, it’s not available in GT mode due to memory issues with the PS3.
* In-game rewards (such as the monetary prize in GT5 Prologue) for your performance in online events is something Polyphony Digital is considering, and may be implemented in a future update.
* Gran Turismo 5’s official, 2-disc sound-track will be released soon.
* Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.
* The YouTube replay upload feature had to be pulled from the final version of the game because it took a very long time to render and it consumed too much memory. Yamauchi is still considering it, however.

That sounds so stupid.

Is the soundtrack any good? or does it just sound like video game music?

The soundtrack is pretty amazing from what I've heard in game so far. Very instrumental. You could probably youtube a few songs.

I agree...How many ****ing Sims do we need in this game. Rally, LeMans, Nascar, Real Life....

bah it sounds like video game music, with a few tracks that would make for good bedroom music, and some J-Rock. Much prefer the Forza 3 OST.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "Sounds like video game music"....

I don't care for the in-race songs at all, but the menu piano jazz tunes are ****ing lovely.

I don't know how exactly to describe it. Its just music that I couldn't imagine driving to, nor sitting at my computer with. Just something that sounds like it belongs in a game.

I don't understand all the fuss about the menu and load times. It seems to load relatively quickly for me and I've had no problems navigating the menu screens. It takes a little more time than it should for the previews of the cars to load, but that's about it. The shadows are pretty aliased, but that's about the only visual flaw I've seen. The game is a blast.

Maybe having a PS3 makes you used to long loading times. A PC like mine is very fast.

The data transfer rate of the PS3's 2xBlu-Ray drive is 9 megabytes per second, where a 1 terabyte hard drive like mine averages about 116 megabytes per second. So, we are talking more than 12 times faster loading times on a PC game. Once you install part of the game on the PS3's hard drive, it helps quite a bit. (it's still very slow)

OK, PS3 uses a 2x Blu Ray drive, which = 72 Mbps (72 Megabits = 9 Megabytes)

Xbox 360: DVD-5 has slightly better at data transfer [than PS3], but must spin at a much higher speed than BluRay. (it's loud)
Xbox 360: DVD-9 (dual layer) has slower data transfer than BluRay 2x, however.

Sorry, I find this stuff interesting.

What's important to note is that the load times vary greatly between older fat PS3s and the PS3Slim.

The Slim seems slower by about 7 seconds when loading movies, but the Slim removes the 'Playstation 3' logo when you launch a game, saving you about 2.5 seconds. Loading times in game would be unaffected; it still uses a 2x drive speed.

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/PS3-Slim-Slower-Faster-phat,news-4539.html

In my opinion, both Sony and Microsoft should have made a 3.5" HDD fit in there some way. The 2.5" hard drives are slower and more expensive, and the maximum storage size is smaller.

I agree, the load times are pretty bad, but nothing compared to Mod Nation Racers.

What the hell are you guys talking about?? If you do the full install the load times are like 20 seconds for races and menus and such take almost no time at all! FYI: I have an upgraded-to-320GB Fat PS3 that used to have the 60GB drive.

I think I'm on a 40 gig fatty? I don't remember, it was cheap when I got it, though! :p

Finally finished some Rally challenges. Oh good GOD were they hard. But 100k credits for gold isn't too shabby....Time to work on B-Spec while I jerk around on the PC.
