The release date for GTA IV has been pushed back until at least April 2008, possibly May. That's nearly 6 months, which really sucks. Got this info from GTA4.net

Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION?3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company?s second quarter of fiscal 2008.

That sucks. Although I was going to wait and see if it came out on PC so I wasn't planning on buying it this fall anyway.

But thats one less big title for the fall/holiday season. :(

According to Game Trailers it still required a LOT of work

If it isn't finished, good. Don't squeeze out an unfinished product. More developers should have the balls to push stuff back and back until it's finally complete. Hell, I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway.

Too bad everybody doesn't have that train of thought ;(

No biggie, plenty of other games coming out this year to satisfy me.

Not surprised at this. That ex-Rockstar employee said the management don't even communicate with each other properly.

learn from valve and dont set unrealistic release dates....dummies

No kidding the list is huge! Normally this would suck but hell this is a good thing cause there are way to many games coming out this holiday season as it is! :p

its twice or three times bigger than SA. so yeah I expected to take longer to develop.

Shitty. But better late than rushed.

How many kids are going to jump off a bridge upon hearing this news?

I agree. I'd rather have them take more time to develope the game further. Especially since theres rumors about about the 360 version could possibly have stuttering issues.

I'm sure PS3 version has its fair share of issues since it's a week or two behind in development ( http://www.gta4.net/news/3915/gaming-websites-preview-gta-iv-new-screenshots-released/ )

I'm glad they delayed it though. I'd rather be temporarily pissed about the delay but be amazed by the game, then waste $60 and be pissed about the buggy game I just bought, and wonder if they will ever release patches to fix the issues.

I can't lie that I'm not pretty disappointed, but it's better this than they release a buggy game. From the sound of things it just isn't where it needs to be right now, so it's for the best that they're tuning it up. Just keep in mind this probably won't result in a better game with more features, but rather the same game you thought you were getting in the first place as opposed to the rather unfinished one that it would be otherwise.

This was my most looked forward to game ... but now I think it lost that to MGS4 since they're both being released about the same time now (GTA may even be later).

And just to note, it's been delayed to fiscal 08', which is not the same. It'll be Jan., Feb., or March according to the updated post.

I wasnt going to get it anyways, but I always thought from the day they discussed a release that it would be too early. Im not only unsurprised, but I even expected a delay. Sounds like they were just doing some wishful thinking with a holiday release.

I'm surprised they even thought that release date was realistic. I mean if they had to delay it 6 months they've got quite a bit of work to do. Got our hopes up for no reason :(

Omega, yeah, but it's been sorta tradition, ever since GTA3, every single console GTA game(or the first launches of it, i.e. not the PC versions etc) have been in October, that's probably why they guessed it, they probably wanted to try to keep up the tradition.

Not surprised with the trouble take two is in and the amount of competition out this year. Does anyone else think that other games could be delayed? I think so it happened with SC 5 and now this. I never thought I would say this but there are too many games coming out this year.

What the christ am i gonnna play on my ps3 now?

:|

heavenly sword
lair
ratchet and clank
time crisis 4

And if you have a 360
BioShock
Mass Effect
Mercenaries 2
CoD4

I am so ready for Bioshock, Mass Effect and Time Crisis 4!

Like many have said already, this news would normally have been awful if there weren't so many superb looking games on the way. Orange Box, Little Big Planet, Metroid, Mario!!

Have there ever been this number of awesome looking games in developement at one time?

I still haven't been arsed to get a PS3, I mean I own a high-end comp, a 360 and a Wii, not to mention a PS2, no real reason for me to get PS3 until MGS4 comes out.

I think that a holiday release was probably realistic at the time, but when it was realized a delay was going to happen they figured they should just do one big delay and perfect what they've got.

Good lord Gamestop stock just fell 3% and I bet this is the reason. :x

Analyst Michael Pachter believes Rockstar has delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto IV because it is struggling with development on the PlayStation 3.
And the Xbox 360 version of the game has suffered at least a six month delay as a result, due to contractual obligations that will have prevented the publisher from releasing the game first on Microsoft's machine, says the analyst.
"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," said Pachter.
"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version," he added.

What the **** does he know? He knows as much as us.

For the guy who predicted the PS3 price cut and that X360 would follow suit, not bad.

PS3 price cut was inevitable. The same analyst who predicted PS3 would win the console war by Fall 2006?

What I'm trying to say is why throw rumours around when its all guess work. Rock* have already said about a month ago that the PS3 version is 2 weeks behind the 360 version, I don't get how thats going to cause a 6 month delay.

Take Two's Q2 fiscal year begins in february and ends in april... I don't know what you're smoking with at least april.

Well...this will probably delay my ideas of purchasing a PS3, letting it drop even more in price.

This.

Especially since I'll be hopefully done college when it comes out and I'll have a lot more time to play, not to mention a real job and thus much more money :D

Yeah same. I think I'll just go with the wii now that it's still getting games on time.

No skin offa my nose. I'll have a 6 more productive months before GTA4 steps in and colonizes my life.
